SUBCULTURE • A subculture is a group that has beliefs and behaviors that are different from the main groups within a culture or society

SUBCULTURES EXIST EVERYWHERE!

•Subcultures exist among every society around the world;

Mexican Pointed Shoes- This subculture is focused around music. People in Matehaula, Mexico

go to the dance floors in pointed shoes to dance and show their love for tribal music.

•Gyaru Girls In Japan the Gyaru Girls are obsessed with trying to achieve unattainable levels of beauty that they see by the media. They go to

extreme mesures to achieve their looks such as following the latest fashions and always having big eyes.

COUNTERCULTURE

• A counterculture is a group with values and customs which are different from and usually opposed to those accepted by most of the culture or society

COUNTERCULTURES AROUND US•Hippies

In the 1960’s the hippies believed life was about being happy and what feels good. Believed in things such as the use of drugs,

free love, and eco-friendly actions.

HOW DO THEY FIT WITH THE MAIN

CULTURE?•Subcultures and countercultures are different from each other because a subculture shares beliefs with the main culture while adding its own beliefs and values as well. While the counterculture disregards the main cultures values altogether and makes their own beliefs. •Countercultures often go against the main culture, while subcultures live amongst the main culture

FITTING IN WITHCULTURE

•Countercultures tend to cause more harm then good amongst the whole group because they are going against the norm. But subcultures fall into place easily because they go with the same beliefs as the main culture.
