the Department of Labor)

Data Collection

• 20 year collaboration with CA - EDD’s monthly labor program

• Reduce respondent burden

• NASS: Quarterly survey (CA only)

• States other then CA, collect data twice a year

• April: Data collected for January & April

• October: Data collected for July & October

Data Collection • Use of reference weeks

• Sunday to Saturday period including the 12th of the month

• Comparable to other economic and labor-related data series

• Four quarterly reference weeks basis of “annual” estimates

Data Collection

• Sample Size:

• US: ~14,000

• CA: ~1,000

• What’s Collected?

• Number of hired workers worked on the farm

• Total number of hours worked

• Total wages paid each reference week

Data Collection

• Modes of Collection:

• Mail

• Week before the 12th of the month (reference week)

• Fax

• Phone

• Begins 2 weeks after mail

• Concludes 2 weeks later

When is the Publication? • Publication Date:

• Mid-May & Mid-November

• Next release: May 7, 2018 at noon (PT)

• May will contain the following quarters:

• January

• April

What’s Published? • Quarterly estimates by regional & US-levels

• CA, FL & HI are single-state regions

• Hired workers: • All • Temporary (149 days or less) • Permanent (150 days or more)

• Average hours per week worked, per worker

• Wage rates:• All hired worker wage rate • Field worker wage rate • Livestock worker wage rate • Field & livestock worker combined wage rate
