SIDNEY MARSHALL-A
senior and two year letterman. S idney heads the linemen as a fine co-cap
tain. He is an outstand
standing leader and a good football player. S i d n e y plays offense and defense.
and anchors the Patriot
forward wall with his 160
pounds.
MARSHALL ABEL-This
versatile senior has won
three varsity letters as an
end but leads the Patriots this year as an outstand
ing quarterback. At 174
pounds he is a keen com
petitor and will be a con
stant threat to Albemarle foes. On defense he will be found doing a rugged job
at the flank post.
MAYNARD STRICKLER
This driving fullback is expected to blossom into
the stardom he deserves. A coach's dream of an
athlete, he has been a letter winner since his freshman year.
CHESTE R POWELL-An
other senior, Chester is a one-year letterman who is expected to do a firstrate job at end. He is a
good pass receiver and
will be found at linebacker and half-back on defense.
BILLY HANEY - A rugged 170 pound one-year
letterman, Billy seems to
to be leading the tackle
candidates, a f t e r being converted from guard. He likes it rough and is a
fiery competitor.
CHARLES VANCE - A
senior one-year letterman,
"Chuck" is the No. 1 center. He is strong on of- 1111 ...... fense and may be a sur
prise defensively. Could
be the No. 1 center in this
area.
WYATT OWENS - This 160 pound halfback ex
hibited considerable prom
ise in reserve rolls last year. He had his best night against Spotsylvania,
scoring 2 touchdowns and
an extra point.
WINSTON DETAMOREA 185 pound junior who is
another fighting contender
for that starting tackle lllliM .. ~ position. With an increase in agility and speed Winston could develop into a
fine lineman on both of
fense and defense.

TOBY B R 0 W N-After
two very successful years with JV's this speedy half
back moves up to try his
luck with the varsity. He
is expected to be seeing heavy duty by mid-season.
BILLY LEAKE-This non
letter winning sophomore is a tough 140 pound guard that can really move on
defense. His name is expected to be heard plenty
before his 3 years of foot
ball terminates. A rugged lineman, Billy came
up from the J. V. team during the latter part of
last season.
LEONARD SANDRIDGE
A junior with one letter, Leonard is expected to
team with Sidney to make the guard spot a real tough one.
ROY BRADLEY- This 175
pound tackle from Crozet
eamed his first "A" last year and is a contender for a starting berth at that
I same position this year. He plays both offense and
defense and being a senior knows how to play both very well.
CORY KELSEY -Another sophomore and former J. V. performer, Cory is ex
pected to provide strong
reserve strength as he
backs up Sidney Marshall at the right guard spot.
RICHARD SHIFLE'IT- A
Lane High School transfer who won high scoring
honors there last year as he earned his first letter.
He is rated as a top-notch
pass receiver and should team up with Powell at the end posts to make that
one of the Patriots' strong
est positions.
RODNEY SOUTHALL -
A senior transfer student from Miller School, this
145 pounder makes halfb3.ck one of the Patriots' stronger positions.
GEORGE BAIN- This fast improving junior pivotman moves up from the J. V.
team and may be pushing Vance for his position by mid-season.

Co-Captains
CLYDE LYNCH- This explosive veteran of three varsity years will lead the team as co-captain and left half-back. At the time of this writing the team's hopes for Clyde are shadowed due to a very serious illness, however, with his great competitive spirit we are sure that he will be with us, maybe not physically, but in a leadership capacity.
In a Tangle
SIDNEY MARSHALL-This hard-hitting guard is rated the top defensive man on the squad. A hard worker, Sidney is one of the top choices for All-District honors this season. He will be entering his third year of varsity play, his second year a s a starting guard for the Patriots.

JIM FRENCH- This sophomore 183 pounder is improving rapidly and may see some action as a strong reserve.
CHARLIE SMITH - This tough little junior will help furnish reserve for Strickler at fullback. Strong defensively he throws all of his 140 pounds at the opponents.
ELDRIDGE ROBERTS -.... Promising sophomore with
two years of J. V. experience. Has good hands, hustle, and agility.
HAROLD MORRIS- Recently switched to end by varsity coaches to relieve critical manpower shortage at this position. Played halfback on J. V.'s for past three seasons. Hard, willing, worker.
FREDDIE BREYVOGELExceptionally fast and deceptive, a constant breakaway threat. Coach's only regret is that he is a senior. He is developing fast as a quarterback . . . will see a great deal of action.
RICHARD CARMODY -Newcomer to varsity squad ... one year J . V. experience . . . has speed and power to give capable reserve strength at fullback.
BILLY MARSTON- Small, fast, and elusive describe this pint-size halfback. A hard worker in past years on J. V. Has desire and determination to be an asset to the Patriot attack.
SHERMAN SHIFLETT -No previous football experience. Tranfers from Lane where he started as a miler . . . decided to give football a try ... is improving fast.

DONALD ROBERTSONAnother J . V. graduate who is expected to provide reserve strength at center. Donald is a junior.
BARRY MAWYER - A p r o m i s i n g quarterback prospect. Has very strong and accurate arm. This 145 pound freshman should develop into one of Albemarle's greatest quarterbacks.
A L SPROUSE-The biggest lineman on the team at 6' 1" and 220 pounds, this freshman J . V. graduate is bringing smiles from the coaches with his outstanding a b i I i t y and rapid progress. AI may move in as a regular and remain one for three more years. He needs experience and speed to become one of Albemarle's finest linemen.
GUY DeHOOG- This 157 p o u n d Earlysville footballer is a one year veteran letter winner at the end slot. He is going to be one of Coach Null's defensive stalwarts. Desire, hustle, and ruggedness are the ingredients of Guy's recipe for football.
