Dear parents and carers,
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope all families had a restful and
relaxing holiday break. The following are reminders and follow
up from last term.
Building School Pride
We would also like the community’s support with the following
operational matters. These are all connected to encouraging our
students to strive to be the best that they can be. High
expectations from all members of our community will support
our students to achieve these.
Being on time is a life skill. Students must arrive to
school on time. It teaches students the important value of
reliability and punctuality. The impact of children arriving
late is that they are missing out on explicict learning time.
An average of 25 children are arriving late each day. This
also impacts on the workload of office staff.
Wearing the school uniform. I request that all students
wear the school uniform. To foster a sense of pride in being
a Footscray Primary School student means being proud to
wear our uniform.
Taking care of our school and environment. At the end
of Term 1 school staff stayed back to help create an orderly
school environment. The appearance of our school and
classroom spaces can enhance or hinder our perception of
order. I request parents talk to students about the
importance of caring for our school. This includes not
damaging school property and doing our personal best to
take pride in everything we do. Thanks to all of the teaching
staff for the extraordinary effort.
Partnerships with parents to enhance student learning
Last term one of the parent forums focused on ways we can
continue to build and develop positive partnerships at Footscray
Primary School. When parents are engaged in school learning
programs and teachers support the establishment of these
partnerships, students are more likely to experience an inclusive
education at school.
In the school’s Annual Implementation Plan we have prioritised
the development of positive partnerships between home and
school.

Our Key Improvement Strategy is:
The school will work with parents/carers through regular
communication about what their children are learning at school.
Some key actions we are taking towards achieving this goal are:
1. Recognise the roles of parents and carers as first
educators and engage them with school learning
programs. Therefore students are more likely to
experience an inclusive education within and beyond the
classroom. Principal and Assistant Principal will plan a
range of ways to support communication about the
school's learning programmes in the form of:
Communication Tool Up to date information
Parent Forums (monthly) In Term 2 the following forums will be held: May -Presentation to Foudantion 2020 families on Wednesday 8th May at 6:00pm - The Primary Years Program- A Curriculum for the 21st Century- Wednesday 22nd May at 9:00 am June – School Wellbeing at F.P.S Friday 14th June at 9.00am
Curriculum Overviews sent home at the beginning of each term. These will be sent home on Monday.
These were shared at the Parent Information session in Term 1. The Term 2 Overview will be sent home shortly.
Home learning to support practice at home
The Home Learning Policy has been included in this newsletter.
Celebrations of Learning Teachers will communicate their Celebrations of Learning in advance so parents can attend.
Student-led Conferences and the sharing of learning by students.
A permission form about Seesaw has been sent home to all 3-6 families. Please ensure this is completed and returned to school.
School newsletter and website.
The Policy for Communication has been shared with the community. Please read and follow this policy
2. Community members including students and staff were
involved with 'The Wellbeing Summit'. This was held last
term and a report from the day is currently being
written. Teachers will facilitate parent/carer involvement
in education within the classroom, school and beyond.
The application of SeeSaw will support ongoing school-
wide communication about student learning. This is an
exciting online tool that uses technology to document the
learning for families.
3. Communication with teachers- While appointments are
required to discuss your child’s learning or any concerns,
it is important to build positive relationships by getting to
know your child’s teacher. This can be a quick hello and
brief conversation.

Year 4 News
Year 4 have hit the ground running this term, having already
started clinics in P.E, a new Unit of Inquiry and an Excursion
to look forward to next Thursday.
We have started our new Inquiry unit, “Ecosystems are
Interdependent” by exploring biotic and abiotic factors that
make up an ecosystem, identifying these factors in our own
school environment and discussing how these affect each
other. The students have also really enjoyed integrating
literacy into this unit, combining our current unit on
summarising, with a focus on sketchnoting to think about
our learning. Sketchnoting involves visually representing
concepts and ideas through words, drawing, symbols, lines
and diagrams. We are also very excited for our excursion
next week where we will travel to Rickett’s Point Marine
Sanctuary to learn about intertidal rockpools and sandy
beaches.
We have also been fortunate to begin working with the
Western Bulldogs this week in P.E as part of our unit on AFL.
Students have been able to further develop their skills under
the guidance of industry professionals and we will continue
to be working with the Bulldogs for the next two weeks.
