An Introduction to Rademon Estate Distillery

In establishing Rademon Estate Distillery, Fiona & David Boyd-Armstrong created Northern Ireland’s first Craft Distillery.

The inspiration came from Fiona’s passion to rekindle the lost art of distilling in Northern Ireland.

Shortcross Gin takes it’s name from our local village, Crossgar.

In Gaelic or Irish, Crossgar means the “Short Cross”, so we are proud to have our village name on each and every bottle we produce.

Inspired by our surrounding’s at Rademon Estate, we have strived to capture the essence of our unique location in each and every bottle of Shortcross Gin.

This starts with us foraging four of our key botanicals from the forests and gardens of the estate.

Wild Clover

Apples

The Elderflower, Elderberry, Wild Clover & Apples are what gives Shortcross it’s Terroir or sense of place.

These are combined with with traditional gin botanicals such as Juniper, Citrus Fruits, Coriander Seed, Cinnamon and Cassia to balance out the recipe

Each Batch of Shortcross Gin is distilled in our unique Pot Column Stills.

Our original still is a 450L Copper Pot-Column Still with two seven plate enrichment columns.

The still was crafted by Christian Carl to our bespoke specification.

In early 2018 the distillery saw latest still be installed.

A 1,071L Copper Pot-Column Still with two ten plate enrichment columns was installed.

The new still enables the distillery to not only increase capacity but also the versatility to create new products.

The botanicals combine to create a classic juniper forward gin with uplifting floral notes, and smooth and sweet flavours with a long smooth finish.

Each Cask of our Single Malt Single Pot Still & Irish Whiskey is crafted by hand here at Rademon Estate Distillery in the heart of County Down, Northern Ireland

Our First Casks where filled in the Summer of 2015.

In Late 2019 those casks will be opened as mature Single Malt Irish Whiskey.
