to West Virginia Flood Cleanup
The Mission Committee is happy to report
that due to the generosity of the Albright
Endowment and with additional funds
from the spring rummage sale, $1500 was
sent to support clean up efforts from the
summer flooding in West Virginia. By
sending this donation to UMCOR Special
#WV2016 (United Methodist Committee
on Relief) we are assured that the entire
amount will be used for flood relief. We
are grateful to Betty Lou Albright for
directing the interest from the Albright
Endowment to the support of mission causes.
Friday at 3 is the pre-sale. Members of
this congregation, the Korean Church, the
Weekday Ministries families, and the boy
scouts’ families are invited to a pre-sale.
There is still opportunity to contribute:

Brick by Brick Throughout Oct., MLUMC’s Christian Ed
students are collecting donations for
renovations at a Nyadire health clinic that
serves as the only source of health care for
thousands of people in rural Zimbabwe.
Money for renovations comes from The
Nyadire Connection and other United
Methodist
Churches.
MLUMC’s goal
is to raise $700
with 100%
going directly to
building clinics.
Fliers and a
display are
located in the
Narthex.
Checks can be made to MLUMC with
Zimbabwe clinics in the memo line.
For more information, see Kim Rhoton or
www.nyadire.org.

Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your participation at the sewing party at Mt. Lebanon
United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 9. Because of you and about 90 other
women and girls, a total of 927 Girl Empowerment Pad (GEP) kits were assembled and
packed for shipment to girls in Zimbabwe. (Our goal was 800.)
Added to other kits made throughout the year by volunteers, the total for
shipment is 1427, along with seven donated sewing machines. At least three other
sewing machines were donated as a result of the October 9 sewing party.
This impressive achievement would not have been possible without your help and
support. You have made a difference in the lives of girls, who often miss school every
month for lack of sanitary protection. Now girls who get a kit you made can stay in
school this year!
On behalf of The Nyadire Connection (TNC) and the GEP program team, please
accept our gratitude for your work. Also: If you see them, please also help us thank
those individuals who came to the sewing party who may not have provided us with an e
-mail address.
We also appreciate the donations of refreshments by Starbucks, Panera, Potomac
Bakery and Giant Eagle, as well as the hand-made prizes from the Hearts and Hands
Ministry of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church. This church was an extremely
gracious host for this event. We thank Girl.gov of the Women and Girls Foundation,
girls from local high schools, and the Brothers Brother Foundation for their help with
container deliveries. The team called The Nyadire Connection (TNC) of Christ United
Methodist Church also deserves thanks for their coordination and facilitation of this
initiative, which is now an official TNC program. Of course, as you might expect, there
are too many individual volunteers to thank, so please forgive any omissions.
We look forward to sharing news about next year’s sewing party!
Sincerely,
Bonnie Lawson and Linda Ambroso
P.S. If you or anyone you know would like to offer additional help throughout
the year; donate materials such as soap, underwear, a sewing machine or cotton fabric;
please contact Bonnie Lawson at BonnieLawson58@comcast.net or 412-343-3498.
Checks are welcome also, and should be made payable to Christ United Methodist
Church, with “TNC GEP program” in the note line; please mail to Christ United
Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
Thank You To all who attended the sewing party, to Mt. Lebanon
United Methodist Church for hosting and to all who
worked to make it happen.

Dear Mission Committee of
Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church,
Just a quick note from Haiti. Thank you
so much for your donation. It will be
put to use in school improvements at
the LeFabre school. It was basically a
structure of sticks and tarps.
Please let your church know that your
support is so appreciated; that this note
is beyond just a thank you. Also, the
Thomas Food Project has dispatched
water purifiers to the hurricane affected
area.
Peace,
Warren McGuffin
Director
Thomas Food Project
Thank you
from Haiti
Following
Hurricane Matthew,
the Mission
Committee donated
$2,000 to Haiti’s Thomas Food Project on
behalf of MLUMC. The church has
received this thank you note: Come worship at a
contemporary service led
by Pastor Tom and B.J.
Collins with Christian
musicians, including
church member Keith
Moorhouse.
B.J. Collins, a Bethel Park resident, formed
a Christian rock band, “70x7” in 1996. He
plays regularly with Tara Park, a singer
who was at Christ United Methodist for
years and is now in Butler serving with
her husband Rev. Eric Park. B.J. also plays
at the United Methodist church in New
Stanton on Sunday mornings. Anyone
who has attended Annual Conference at
Grove City has heard B.J. leading the
contemporary service.
