The trustees submit their annual report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2019. The
Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) (“Accounting and
Reporting by Charities”) in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the charity.

The Foodbank has 110 volunteers who operate the Distribution Centres and Warehouse on a day-to-day basis.
This includes Shift Supervisors, a Data Input Team, three Referral Agent Co-ordinators, a website manager
and graphics expert.
Structure, Governance and Management
The Charity’s governing documents are a Trust Declaration adopted on 16 June 2013 and Supplementary
Declaration dated 21st September 2015. There must be a minimum of five trustees and a maximum of eight,
who are appointed or re-appointed annually at the AGM held in September. Apart from the first trustees,
every trustee must be appointed for a term of three years by a resolution of the trustees. In selecting
individuals for appointment as trustees, the trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and
experience needed for the effective administration of the Foodbank. All trustees must sign a confidentiality
agreement. All trustees give their time and skills voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits.
The Foodbank is supported by supporters from many walks of life who provide donations of food, assist with
food collections, donate financially and act as volunteers. It works closely with the range of churches in
Ringwood and the surrounding areas and an extended network of local front-line professionals including all of
the local Schools, Doctors’ surgeries, Citizens’ Advice Bureaux, Social Services as well as the local churches.
We continue to be grateful to Belinda's Bakery for the provision of bread, free of charge, to our clients via a
voucher scheme. Distribution Centres are operated from the Wesley Centre in Ringwood, part of the Trinity
Church complex, and from the United Reformed Churches in Verwood and Fordingbridge.

Objectives and Activities
The objects of the charity are the relief of poverty in Ringwood and the surrounding area, specifically
including Verwood and Fordingbridge, in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies
to individuals in need and / or charities or other organisations working to relieve poverty. Ringwood
Foodbank operates under the auspices of and in accordance with the regulations of the Foodbank Network,
part of the Trussell Trust.
The main activity undertaken by the charity is the relief of food hardship and poverty for individuals and
families living in and around Ringwood, Verwood and Fordingbridge. This is achieved through the collection
of ambient food products donated by individuals, schools, churches and other community groups. The food is
sorted and stored and then distributed to those in need. This is done through a voucher system, whereby a
voucher is issued by a front-line professional who is able to assess that there is a genuine need.
The operation of the Foodbank is entirely dependent on volunteers. All Trustees, key post-holders, managers
and staff in the warehouse and distribution centre are volunteers. The Trustees wish to express their deep
gratitude for the over-whelming level of support given by the people and communities of Ringwood,
Verwood, Fordingbridge and the surrounding areas.
Achievements and Performance
The year to 31 March 2019 was the sixth year of operation of Ringwood Foodbank. Emergency Food Boxes
are supplied to the Trussell Trust shop in Ferndown. Ringwood Foodbank has undergone a significant level of
growth since its inception in November 2012 and is therefore now in a period of consolidation. Ringwood
Foodbank is a registered charity with the Charity Commission.
A funding and communications team ensures effective communications with both volunteers and the public
and work thus far includes an active Facebook page, up-to-date website and regular, high-quality
Newsletters.
Food donations have been given generously by the people of the towns and surrounding areas, and a total of
25,629kg with a nominal value of £44,850.75, was donated in the year to 31 March 2019. 27,223kg, nominal
value £47,640.25, has been given out in food parcels. The amount of stock held at 31 March 2019 was
4,760kg which has a nominal value of £8,330.
A total of 1,999 people were fed for three days, compared with 1,801 in the year 2017-18. Of these 1,289
were adults and 710 children. This is an increase of 11% on the previous year.
A number of financial donations were received totalling £16,559 and are detailed in the financial statements.
The Trustees are grateful to all individuals and organisations who have given financially, as the operation of
the Foodbank requires significant income to cover running expenses.
Ringwood Foodbank is grateful to those local businesses which support our work, particularly to Belinda’s
Bakery in Poulner, Ringwood, Gourmet Grocer in Fordingbridge, the charity Fare Share which allows us to
provide fresh food to clients, and Price’s Fish & Chip shop in Ringwood which provides hot meals.
Ringwood Foodbank is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and has taken steps to
ensure that it is fully compliant with the terms of the General Data Protection Regulations.

• Once more demand has increased year on year and we saw an additional 197 clients being fed
compared with last year, which itself had seen an increase of 155 clients over the previous year
• There was a sharp increase in demand during January, February and March compared with previous
years
• Highest demand for the year occurred in March whilst in previous years it has always been in
December
• Lowest demand occurred unexpectedly in August, the major children’s holiday period
• In seven months, the demand was greater than in the same months in previous years (April, June,
October, November, January, February and March)

Chairman’s Statement

In July 2018 Ringwood Foodbank marked its 5th Anniversary. Despite our desire for the need for Foodbanks
to disappear there is still no evidence that we are likely to achieve this in the near future. Need for our services
continues to grow and I am pleased to be able to report that in 2018/19 Ringwood Foodbank (RFB) remained
in a strong position in order to meet the needs of our clients. The number of volunteers, our financial health
and our supplies of food remained robust enough for us to meet the needs of our clients throughout the year.
We received a very positive report from our Trussell Trust Area Manager, Lucy Duffy, following her Quality
Assessment inspection of us in March 2019. The inspection covered a wide range of areas and with one or two
minor areas for improvement the report declared us meeting the required standard across all areas. The two
premises inspected this year were Ringwood Distribution Centre and the Warehouse. These two areas of our
business received excellent reports.
As well as continuing to carry out our core business of providing emergency food to those in need effectively,
a number of new initiatives have been rolled out during the year:
• As a result of a partnership between Trussell Trust, Fare Share and Asda RFB is now able to supply
fresh food to clients at its Ringwood and Fordingbridge Distribution Centres. The availability of fresh food has
been universally well received by our clients.
• Ringwood Distribution Centre is now able to offer a hot meal to clients in the form of vouchers for
Prices Fish and Chip shop. Ringwood Foodbank is also able to provide vouchers for fresh bread at its
Ringwood, Fordingbridge and Verwood distribution centres thanks to generosity of Belinda's Bakery.
• Fordingbridge and Verwood Distribution Centres are able to offer clients vouchers for a local
greengrocer and a local butcher to supplement the food they receive from the Foodbank.
• All DCs are now Wi-Fi enabled and have laptops which can be used by clients
• Fordingbridge DC were able to provide food to a holiday scheme run at St Mary’s Church,
Fordingbridge, during the summer holidays.
• In addition to collection boxes we have increased the number of staffed supermarket collection days
with collections taking place in Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco and the Co-Op. We are very grateful to the stores
for facilitating these collections which give us a chance to talk about what we do to the public as well as
collecting food.
The success of RFB in delivering our mission has only been possible with the support of the Communities of
Ringwood, Fordingbridge and Verwood who provide the volunteers, the money and the food which are
required. The generosity of those giving time, money and food is an example to us all and we are very grateful
for the support.
RFB is a volunteer-only run Foodbank and only functions as well as it does because of the huge commitment
made by Trustees, Managers and Volunteers in a wide range of roles. I am grateful to all of them for that
commitment. It would be wrong not to mention at this point Dr Tim Brigstocke who is stepping down as a
Trustee in September. Tim has been a trustee since the start of RFB and his work on Supermarket collections,
Safeguarding, Health and Safety and liaison with Ringwood Rotary as well as his sagacity as a Trustee has
been central to the success of the RFB. We are very grateful to Tim for all his work.

We are very fortunate to continue to have wonderful financial support from local people and organisations.
Annual expenditure increased from last year by around £800, more than half of which was accounted for by
the purchase of food.
Our income and expenditure were broadly in balance in the year.
The funds being held in our bank accounts remain sufficient to meet the costs of nearly two years of our
normal operations. This exceeds Trustees’ policy intention of retaining a reserve of at least 12 months’
normal operating costs.
As our expenditure increases in future, we expect to continue to be dependent on our long-established
regular donors.
The Trustees have continued with their policy of prudence and fairness in managing the financial affairs of
Ringwood Foodbank and intend to continue in that vein for the indefinite future.
A professional audit is not required for these Accounts since the income of the charity is less than the level
prescribed by The Charity Commission.
Trustees express their gratitude to Mr Terry Riggs for having examined and approved the Financial
Statements.
Reserves Policy
The Trustees of Ringwood Foodbank seek to maintain adequate reserves to ensure that all reasonable day-to-
day running costs can be met as and when they fall due, recognising the basic financial principle that the
Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring that solvency is maintained. ‘Adequate reserves’ is deemed to
be sufficient funding for twelve months’ of normal expenditure.
