A lifelong Girl Scout, Sylvia Acevedo was appointed CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA in May 2017, coming full circle from her youth as a Girl Scout in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sylvia has been an engineer and executive at Apple, Dell, Autodesk, and IBM. She began her career as a rocket scientist at NASA.

Here at Girl Scouts, we believe in LEADing her through the open door. That is why we are hosting our first ever LEADher Summit. Community LEADhers and Girl Scouts from all over the state of Louisiana are gathering to have a discussion about girl leadership and the importance of leading her through what’s to come.

Our panel of female community leaders will open a conversation on the obstacles girls face today, and discuss how providing opportunities to step up and lead can move the needle on the state of the girl in Louisiana.

Girls from Louisiana will be given the space to learn and develop their own strengths through activities centered around the Girl Scout Leadership Experience’s four program pillars: STEM, Outdoor Skills, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship.

Girls in the United States and Louisiana are growing up in a period of rapid demographic, social and economic change. Findings from The State of Girls, a report by the Girl Scout Research Institute, show that Louisiana is ranked 48th for overall girl wellbeing. The LEADher Summit will create a space for learning, discovery and self-actualization focusing on the power of a leadership experience in turning the tide of the state of the girl.
