Introduction
Look Design Architect (LDA), is an architecture firm registered under
Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (Registration No.: SP/L 335) that located Batu 3,
Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. It was established in the year of 2008, by the
principal architect, Ar. Look Chee Meng. Mr Look had decided to study
architecture since he was young, and took his bachelor degree program at
University College London (UCL). He further obtained his Ar. title and started
involved in construction field. At the earlier stage, the company had gone
through some relocation of the office building around Jalan Ipoh area. Mr
Look also had a partnership with another architecture firm, which is
ARCHITRON, before he detached and established his own company.
The current office‟s location of LDA is at No.4, Jalan Berkok, Off Jalan Ipoh,
51100 Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia. It is a 2-storey terrace house which its ground
floor is transformed into a studio(Figure 1.0)(Figure 1.2) and the upper floor is
remained as residence for Mr Look‟s family (Figure 1.3). The company is now
operating with the concept of home studio, that able to provide relax and
comfortable working environment. Sometimes it is preferred to be called as a
studio, but not an office. The building is renovated to add some green features
for eco-friendly and energy saving purpose. The ground floor studio has an
open courtyard for receiving natural lighting and ventilation during day time,
with some plantations that giving us fresh sense and good eye view.
The company‟s name, LDA, came from Mr Look‟s surname, but it actually
also can be annotated as “Life, Design, Art” or “Life, Design Attitude”, which
has become the company‟s motto and objective.

Projects
Interior renovation project of old shop lot (HIAP CHEONG REALTY
SDN.BHD.) The site (Figure 2.1) is located at 77, Jalan Ipoh. Kuala Lumpur.
The programme is to reorganise the floor plan layout in more security, and
suitable for their nature of work. At 15th January, Mr Ar. Look had assigned
me going for site measure and returns accurate floor plans (Figure 2.2) by
using Auto CAD and also produces a 3D sketchup model (Figure 2.3). In this
task, I‟m enjoyed the process during site measure and recording data (Figure
2.4) (Figure 2.5). Besides that, I had learned how to assign grid line, standard
thickness of the wall, size of doors/windows, spaces, fire escape, natural
ventilation& building by law of an shop lot in Kuala Lumpur during CAD at the
design stage.
The second project that I had involved which located in Country Home,
Rawang. Selangor. It is a façade design project for abandoned shop lot
(Figure 3.1). At first the client wanted to demolish the whole shop lot and
rebuilt it since the building it is an old fashion, but then Mr Ar. Look had
proposed to redesign the façade of the building in more practical and
economical way rather demolish the whole building. The design scheme is
adding the billboard on the building facade to increase the sense of colour,
and also built in the triangle steel-structure platform for vertical farming (sun
shading device & green purpose) to cover the old facade (Figure 3.2). In this
task, I had assigned to involve some part of design, produced Construction
drawing (Figure 3.3)& Elevations drawing (Figure 3.4) by using Auto CAD.
During this project, I had learned the aesthetic of design and also learned how
to draw the construction detail drawing.
The third project that I had involved is 44-storeyhigh rise building, Beverly
Heights – Block A& B (Figure 4.1) located in Hulu Kelang, Gombak, Selangor
Darul Eshan. This project consume a lot of time, because the clients kept on
changing their demands. At first Mr Ar. Look assigned me to arrange the
furniture into the floor plan by using Auto CAD for presentation purpose
(Figure 4.2). Throughout this task I had learned some standard dimension of
furniture, the size of spaces, and the quality of living. After that, Mr Ar. Look
had given me a task which is design the circulation/ path for this building
(Figure 4.3). In this task, I have learnt building by law of high rise building, the
length (meter) between fire staircases, (e.g. from the building death end run
though a fire staircase, the escape path required at least 10 meters; from a
fire staircase run through another fire staircase, the escape path in between
can be maximum up to 60 meters) the size of fire lift, the width of corridor, the
connection of the circulation (e.g. transfer staircase). In addition, I had
ARC 2625 INTERNSHIP REPORT STUDENT NAME : CHIEW SWEE MUN STUDENT ID : 1007P79022
involved to arranging the parking lots (Figure 4.3) for this project and last to
produce set of working drawing (Figure 4.4) by using Auto CAD. In this task,
using (8400mm x 8400mm) grid line to set up the column into the basement
car park area, thus it can fit 3 parking lots in between the columns; it is the
most efficiency way for car park arrangement. Due to the clients keep
requesting some changes of design; the floor plans and the elevations (Figure
4.5) are affected; so far this project had not conclude yet.
For project Seksyen 16, Bungalow located at Petaling Jaya. Selangor. Mr Ar.
Look had assigned me to in charge the B.P which is Building Plan. In this task,
I had learned how to fill in a set of form with title „‟BORANG‟‟, calculation the
basic costing, and checked to check list (Figure 5.1). During week 5, I had
went to the MBPJ (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya) (Figure 5.2) located at
Jalan Yong Shook Lin to do consultation (Figure 5.3). I found out that
indifferent areas, the authorities‟ have their own format, procedures and
requirements with regards planning or building submission drawings, and
different way for folding the submission drawings paper (from A1 fold into A4
size).(Figure 5.4)
During week 6, I went to a site visit located in Cheras. It is 24-storey
apartment, The Imperial Residency.(Figure 6.1) It is my first time visit a high
rise construction site, it let me more understand the construction process and
the construction method e.g. the most interesting is the transfer beam for high
rise building.
