art 31 - fashion people (elementary)

Materials•Scrap paper (wallpaper, wrapping, origami, etc..)•Scissors•White School Glue•Color Pencils•9” x 12” White Paper•9” x 12” Black Paper•Pencil, Eraser and Sharpener

Step 1: Sketch and Color

With a drawing pencil sketch out a basic cartoon self portrait.

Simple drawing will include shirt, pants (or dress), shoes and a face.

Color pencils will be used to fill in any skin and eyes/mouth.

Nothing else will be colored in with color pencil.

Step 2: Clothing

Start with picking two pieces of patterned paper for pants and shirt of person.

When cutting out paper it is better to cut a little larger for each section and then trim where needed.

Use white glue to attach clothing.

Make sure to use small amounts of glue.

For more complicated areas work in sections.

While adding clothing think of details that can be added like collars.

Other details can include ties, gloves, shoes, belts, bows, ribbons and more.

Step 3: Hair

When adding hair pick two different patterns of paper.

Alternate between colors to balance between the papers patterns.

Step 4: Border

Using scraps of paper begin to create a border that will act as a frame for the person.

Step 5: Finish

Entire outside of frame must be completed with no empty spaces.

Add additional details to frame to help fill out background.
