TRANSCRIPT
ARTIST STATEMENTWhen I first heard about this project, I imagined if my
daughter attended school at UCSD, I thought about
how she would be seen and how she would see herself
on campus.
I wanted to paint a forward looking mural. I feel as a
culture we should start looking forward. It is impossible
to discuss such things without a glance back to those
who have come before.
The mural represents the theatre of America; the players
in said play are living and dead, and an example of their
accomplishments and sacrifices. The past and present
and the future. It is a gift from the Black Student union
to every student who comes after them.
We should embark to the future with our heads up and
our eyes open. I hope the mural touches those who view
it as much as it has touched me to paint it.
