DementiAbility Enterprises is pleased to introduce a new workshop
Observing Care and Compassion with the Sit and See Tool
Two of the key components of good care are CARE and COMPASSION. Do you know if your organization is providing good care? Are staff caring and compassionate? How do you know? Lynne Phair, RN, from the UK, has developed a tool called “sit and see”. This workshop will describe how care and compassion impacts behaviour (of those in our care) and then describe how to assess staff interactions that focus on care and compassion. Her videos will convince you that you may not really know what is going on within the walls of your organization. This is a workshop you won’t want to miss.
A supportive environment includes staff that “care” with “compassion”. Sit and See can help address responsive behaviours that are associated with lack of compassionate care. The Sit and See tool will help you with putting person-centred care into action.
DementiAbility Methods include Care & Compassion
Learn about the Sit and See tool, and put it into action, to ensure you are providing high quality person-centred care!

Key Course Objective At the end of the course the learner will be competent and confident in using the Sit & See® Tool to capture care and compassion in their area of work.
Learning Outcomes The learner will be able to:
• Understand care and compassion from a person-centred perspective
• Use a tool that can observe and document care and compassion
• Know how to articulate evidence of care and compassion, ranging from lack of it to examples of excellence
• Summarise objective information to demonstrate care and compassion
• Use the tool to capture care and compassion with the goal of improving care
Add Care and Compassion to your tool box! Why is this different? The Sit and See tool is unlike other observational tools, such as the DOS or Dementia Care Mapping. The focus is on discovering whether the interactions with the care provider are contributing to negative outcomes, such as “difficult” or “challenging” or “responsive” behaviour. The focus is on the carer – and how this is impacting behavioural outcomes.
