Site Organization - Wind

1. Wind from Atlantic (SW) moves through the open facades on the south and west elevations.

2. Water elements cool this wind before it enters the chancellery building.

Site Organization: Sun

1. Open public space between the residence and chancellery is shaded with trees.

2. Public building entries are shaded by the building roof.

3. Trees provide shading for east and west facades of the residence.

Chancellery:

Interior spaces orient east-west to allow wind to cool rooms.

Exterior buffer spaces bring diffuse light into rooms.

Thick walls absorb southern sun.

Residence:

Deep east and west terraces shade rooms from sunlight.

Stair in the building center allows hot air to ventilate out.

Thick walls absorb southern sun.

Sections through buffer zone

Metal roof grille absorbs sunlight and keeps it away from conditioned space. Roof is cooled by wind passing below it.

Concrete panel and masonry walls shade the large glass of the offices and only allow top light.
