August 2013 Updates:

BJE studies

The topic was the Jewish New Year so I made a presentation to liven up the topic a bit, using the BJE

guidelines. The unit started with the concept of “symbols”

Hahgoot enjoyed seeing herself in the presentation, introducing the symbol of the apple (alongside honey and the Shofar)

After a short unit about Rosh Ha’shana, we moved quickly to Sukkot. Hahgoot enjoyed playing out the role play with dolls about the

meaning and attributes of the Sukkah.

Before the High Holidays’ unit Hahgoot studied about Shabbat. So I decided it was about time

we made our own Challah bread!

We made the dough from scratch and it was A LOT of work!

Hahgoot could read the instructions on her own in Hebrew, without the Nikud (vowels)!

The girls worked well as a team, pouring and stirring...

The dough came out VERY sticky, and Hahgoot didn’t like it.

We let it rest under a damp cloth.

When we got back to work,

we added a lot of flour till the dough wasn’t

so sticky.

Hahgoot was nervous about braiding (it’s a new skill), but was surprised

how easy it was and

LOVED it!

Both girls enjoyed the project very

much and we had three cute Challahs ready

for baking!

While the challa baked in the oven the girls shaked vigorously boxes with cream and marbles to make

homemade butter.

What can I say – Homemade Challah with Homemade butter = Bliss!

In our next presentation:

More news from Hahgoot!
