To actively prepare for the Department of Defense’s Warrior Games at Soldier Field, Imperial Crane was honored to be contracted as the equipment provider tasked to set up the stage that was used for the opening and closing ceremonies along with a concert performed by country singers Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. To pay tribute to those wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans, Imperial donated a crane to hoist the American flag during the cycling event along the museum campus. We are proud of the commitment our services members have made to serveour country and keep America safe.
2017 DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE WARRIOR GAMES
Imperial was lifting an assortment of the rooftop equipment to support upcoming rink operations… the heaviest unit being 12,500 lbs at a 150’ reach into the building. A few of the units were in sections where Imperial had to assemble and stack them on the roof, with the operator making blind picks utilizing ourhard line communication system.

A LITTLE BIT OF PLANNINGIS THE KEY TO SUCCESSOn the streets of Pearson Avenue in Downtown Chicago, Imperialreplaced 15,000 pound chillers on the roof of the 13-story Loyola Center Tower. Considering space constraints, safety, and the most efficient wayto create this lift, a 300 ton crane was chosen. The contractor waschallenged with swinging the jib into a small area so planning aheadand thinking outside of the box was critical for this lift’s success. Withperfect positioning along a 40’ wide street, Imperial Crane was able tosave the customer $100,000 dollars.
WINDY CITYRECONSTRUCTIONPROJECTAs part of the Illinois Department ofTransportation’s I-55 reconstructionproject, Imperial Crane was hired toremove and replace 75,000 lb. bridgedeck beams which were 137 feet long.Along this heavily traveled expresswayin Chicago, the bridge picks were madein the middle of the I-55 interchangebetween the hours of 8pm and 4am sothat traffic flow wasn’t affected. The picksrequired heavy-duty lifting chains and two 50-ft. endless loop round slings rated at 90,000 lbs. Commonly used synthetic slings weren’t able to be used during this job as it would’ve cut into the rigging. Imperial Crane was featured on the front cover of Crane & Rigging Hotline magazine due to this high profile job being completed successfully.
THE NEWEST FLEET OF MERLO TELEHANDLERS AVAILABLE FOR RENT OR PURCHASE
DEADLIEST CATCHON THE HOOK ATLIFT & MOVE USAImperial Crane was a sponsor of Lift & MoveUSA, a one-day career fair attracting studentsto the crane, rigging or specialized transportindustry along with guest speakers CaptainJosh Harris and Casey McManus of theDeadliest Catch. Bruce Gay and Bob Kaleta, operators of Imperial Crane, performedsample lifts to demonstrate what a day inthe life of an operator looked like.
Imperial Crane took a ride on a barge to assist in replacing a grain conveyer that was damaged. The conveyer runs from the top of the hill at the plant down to the river to fill barges. Utilizing a creative industry solution, Imperial was able to move this crane down the river and position it along theshoreline as access to this job wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
SAFETY STATSImperial Crane was honored at the NWIBRT(Northwest Indiana Business Roundtable)Construction and Safety awards banquet, whereImperial received an Excellence in Safety award. This award is given to companies that must meetthe Achievement Award criteria for the last threeyears (DAFW, DART, and TRIR lower than the averageof Northwest Indiana Contractors) and demonstratean acceptable safety management system.
