1.1 IntrdutinThe Flight Manual (hereater reerred as the Manual) has been prepared to provide pilots and instructors w ithinormation or the sae and ecient operation o the manned BB and.This manual includes the material required to be urnished to the pilot. It also contains supplemental data suppliedby the balloon manuacturer.
Revisions to this Manual are published on the Kubicek Balloons web site at www.kubicekballoons.cz.

BB Type balloons have been approved by the EASA in accordance with FAR Part 31, Amdt. 31-4 and 31-7 and validated
by FAA.

. oPERATIoNAL LIMITATIoNS
.1 Intrdutin
Section 2 includes operational limitations, instrument markings, and basic index plates, necessary or saeoperation o the balloon, its standard systems and standard equipment.The limitations included in this section and Sect ion 9 have been approved by the FAA.
. Meterlial cnditins
The maximum surace wind speed or ree balloon take-o: 14 knots = 7.5 m/s.The maximum surace wind speed or BB60, BB60Z balloon take-o using quick release with two attachments pointson the burner rame (Y Type) : 11 knots = 6 m/s.The maximum surace wind speed or BB70Z balloon take-o using quick release with t wo attachments points on theburner rame (Y Type) : 10 knots = 5.5 m/s.
The balloon should not be fown in meteorological conditions that give rise to erratic and gusty winds or in thermicconditions.
warning:Flights near to ascending currents o thunderstorm clouds should be rigorously avoided. There is a risk o carrying uptowards altitudes with oxygen insuciency, very low temperature and dangerous turbulence.
The maximum surace wind speed or tethered balloon take-o and operating: 7.5 knts = 4 m/s.
.3 Temperatures
The maximum allowable envelope temperature depends on the abric used above the third horizontal load tape (rst
one above the Nomex), and is dened as ollows:
- Nylon, Polyurethane Coated Hot Air Balloons Fabric max. 110 C (230 F)- Polyester, Polyurethane or Acrylic Coated Hot Air Balloons Fabric max. 124 C (248 F)
All these abrics and temperatures are listed on the Envelope index plate abrics and maximum alowabletemperatures (see 2.15). Fabrics used, above the third horizontal load tape, in a particular envelope is indicated by
YES being marked against the abric. The max imum envelope temperature is the lowest o all the abrics used andthis is indicated by YES marked against appropriate temperature.

NO this abric is not used / NO this temperature is not the max. allowable envelope temperaturecaution:BB balloons up to the ser. number 211 including balloons with special shaped envelope are not equipped with this plate,however they were all built rom Kubek abric and the maximum allowable envelope temperature is 124C (248 F).caution:
I there is a suspicion o exceeding the 124C (255 F) temperature (signalled by dropping o the melting link), it isnecessary to do strength tests o envelope abric (see the Maintenance Manual).
.4 Rate climb and Desent
The maximum rate o climb (except BB20 GP): 4.0 m/s (800 t./min)
The maximum rate o climb BB20 GP: 6.0 m/s (1,00 t./min)The maximum rate o descent: 6.5 m/s (1,300 t./min)

The take-o weight in dependence on the ambient air temperature must never be higher than spec ied in Section 6,paragraph 6.2.The maximum take-o weight does not have to be calculated i the balloon is to be fown below 2000 m (6,600 t)MSL provided, with the balloon buoyant on the ground prior to take o ,the envelope temperature does not exceed + 90 C (194 F) over a period o three minutes.

Approved uel sort: G31 propane, G35 propane-butane
Max Admissible Fuel Pressure: 12 bar (175 psi)In consideration o the pressure increasing into uel cylinders, there is a possibility o NITROGEN technical gas useand its pressurization by means o the nitrogen pressurizing set, but the total pressure in a cylinder must not behigher than 12 bar (175 psi).
Min. Admissible Fuel Pressure: 2.8 bar (40 psi)The min. uel quantity required or take-o is two ull cylinders, or envelopes o 4500 m3 (159,000 cu t) volumeand higher, three ull cylinders.
The gas weight in cylinders must be ound out by weighing or by means o the max. ll bleed valve.
warning:The uel cylinders should not be directly exposed to sunshine or heater eect. In case o the cylinder lling above the maxlevel and consecutive cylinder warming-up, the dangerous pressure increase and ensuing the pressure relie valve openingcan occur.
note:During fights at about the upper limit o allowable uel pressure, there is a long burner fame. It is necessary to avoidlong uninterrupted heating so as not to damage parachute lines.

3.1 IntrdutinSection 3 provides checklist and amplied procedures or coping with emergencies that may occur. The emergencysituations are extremely improbable with proper pre-fight planning and properly inspected and maintainedballoon. Should an emergency arise, the ollowing guidelines are presented in this Sect ion to be applied, in order toeliminate the collisions and resulting damage or injury.I an emergency does occur, the pilot must ensure wind speed; his or her reaction should be quicker under strongerwind and deliberate under mild one. 4. NoRMAL PRocEDURES
4.1 IntrdutinSection 4 provides checklist and amplied procedures or the conduct o normal operation. Normal proceduresassociated with opt ional systems can be ound in Section 9.The mentioned procedures are valid or all makes and models o Balony Kubicek balloons covered by this Manual, aswell as any allowed combinations o baskets, burners and envelopes.
4. Assembly Balln and Pre Take-o ceks
4..1 Balln preparatin:Pull the envelope rom carry ing bag, roll up and spread it on a grassy eld or launching canvas with the mouthagainst the wind. Fully deploy the crown line downwind and close the used def ation system (DS).Place the basket about 3 meters (10 t) in ront o the envelope mouth. Strap uel cylinders into the basket. On theswivel-mounted rame or by means o fexible changeable rods, lit and set the burner to the basket. Attach theload-bearing basket cables by carabiners to the burner rame. Connect supply hoses to cylinders; the burner hosesshould be astened so that the vapour phase supply cylinders will be spent as the last ones. Rod covers are tted overthe basket cables and the fexible rods or swivel- mounted rame, to provide protection. Enclose burner hoses insidethe covers, equipped with zips and velcro tapes, and ensure that the hoses have suc ient slack at the top to allowthe burner gimbal and all uel cylinders will be available and within reach in the basket or case o changing uelsupply during fight.Light the burner and check its correct assembly and operating. Instruments and accessories are xed to the rodcovers or inner basket side. Equipment and ballast should be attached to the inner basket side. Lay the basket overon to its side with burners pointing downwind, i.e. towards the envelope mouth, and manometers and the crossover
valve control acing upwards. Lock the fying wire carabiners to the basket ones correctly orientated and screw theirgates. Tether the basket to a strong anchoring point through envelope carabiners (see Section 4.3.5).Spread out the mouth and tighten the downside. Fix the envelope scoop, control ropes and tapes to the lower burnerrame side. Draw the temperature wire (i used) out o the envelope and connect it to the thermometer.Position the an near by the basket and secure it. You can begin to cold infate the envelope a ter the an starting up.
warning:All cylinders and heavier objects should be xed by means o prescribed straps or tapes and astened in order not to beslackened during landing and cause any injury.Attaching o objects (except textile banners, a transmitting aerial or envelope bag) on the outer basket side isprohibited.
note:I the balloon is tted with a variable height burner rame then, beore hot infation, the burner unit must be locked inthe down position. Once the balloon is infated the burner unit may be moved to the most suitable height. When in theupper position the lateral movement o the burners is slightly restricted.

note:The wind shelter behind low objects is not suitable because the upper envelope part would be knocked down with thewind.- When conditions are windy special care is necessary on take-o and we must contemplate a tethered fight that
means that the balloon must be always tied to a suciently rm and stationary anchoring point by means o arestraining device object. Never built up excess lit beore leaving the ground only by using crew holding the basket(see Section 4.3.5).
- During climbing it is necessary to heat in the way to eliminate the possibility o the pilot light ailure due to the windcut eect ater fying up rom the wind shelter zone. During climbing the envelope, deormation and partial loss inliting orce must be take into account
note:I the wind speed is stronger (more than 6 knots = 3.2 m/s), it is recommended to nd a launch place protected romthe wind as much as possible.
4.3.5 Take- by usin quik release
Take-o can be perormed by means o the ensuring restraining devices:- Bonnano quick release- quick release supplied by the balloon manuacturer
Take - o by using the quick release can be only realized under the conditions:- The Bonnano quick release can be applied in the range o all balloons mentioned in this Flight Manual.- The quick release supplied by the manuacturer can utilise the envelopes up to max. volume o 2200 m3 (78,000
cu t).- The rope/tape o the quick release should be connected to the uppermost envelope carabiners or the separate
restraint lugs o the burner rame (i tted) on the wider basket side by means o the two carabiners with closedgates and locked up.
- The rope length o the quick release should have sucient slack in attaching point to the burner rame.Simultaneously this has to be o appropriate length or the pilots easy release o the restrain device w ithout anyurther rope or line.
- Strength o the restraining rope and the rope o the Bonnano quick release have to be min 29 kN (6,500 Lb).- Strength o the restraining rope and the rope o the quick release produced by the manuacturer have to be
min. 15 kN (3400 Lb).- The restraining rope must be properly xed to a suciently rm and stationary anchoring point and stretched
out along the whole length.- The restraining rope should not be made o a stretchy material so that the ground crew or any properties will
be protect rom its or the quick release recoiling, shooting up or alling towards the anchoring point caused tohappen any injury or damage.
- The length o the restraining rope should be adequately modied according to the balloon size, weather
conditions and launch eld nature.- When take-o is imminent, the nal release should be made when the quick release is as loaded as possible and

the envelope air has to be suciently heated up. For this reason, the balloon should not touch the land righto a ter releasing the restraining device. The optimal situation arises out o the condition o the balloon withthe restraining rope o approximately 7 m (23 t) and the balloon hovered about 1 m (3 t) above ground level.
- During the releasing procedure, the securing pin is withdrawn ready or the nal release. Ater the last visual
check o the people near by the basket, the nal release o the restraining device should be perormed bythe pilot.
- The quick release must be unastened rom the burner rame and securely stored in the basket so that anypersonal injury can not occur while airborne.

6. WEIghT
6.1 Intrdutin
This Section provides a range o balloon loading under which the balloon should operate with respec t to the ambientair temperature.
6. Admissible Weit
The gross (all up) lit must be calculated by using the tables below. Find the admissible gross lit per 1000 m3 (35,310cu t) and multiply it by the Volume Multiplication Factor according to the table below. Furthermore, you shouldcompare the result with the current actual balloon weight (see the sample calculations below).In case the actual mass o each occupant is known it should be taken into account. Otherwise the 77-kg (170 lb) massor each occupant can be considered.

The ambient air temperature at expected fight altitude could be determined either by taking the air temperature
at take-o and converting it according to the ISA conditions (the temperature alls about 0.65 C per each 100 m =33 F per each 3,300 t) or in compliance with the data obtained rom a meteorological stat ion.No estimate o balloon part weights is permit ted. The actual weight (empty weight in case o the uel cylinder) oeach balloon part is quoted on it s index plate or pressed on the middle suspension in case o the burner.
caution:For calculating the maximum gross lit, no tables must be used where the internal envelope temperature exceeds themaximum allowable envelope temperature (see 2.3). The recommended standard table is the 100 C (212 F) table. Thisresults in a reduced load, but will allow or a longer lietime o the envelope.

7.1 IntrdutinThis Section provides description and operation o the balloon and its systems. Reer to Section 9, Supplementsor details o optional systems and equipment.
7. Balln Desriptin
7..1 EnelpeNatural shaped envelopes o vertical N type and horizontal O type or Z type are used as type approved balloons.A gore is the abric section between t wo adjacent vertical load tapes and a number o gores are chosen in accordancewith the envelope size and shape. Vent hole closing, hot air in-fight venting and nal defation is achieved witha DS (defation system) o a parachute, Smart Vent or Lite Vent type. An optional envelope eature is doublerotation vents located on the envelope equator. The lower part o the envelope is made o nomex abric, whichhas a very high resistance to heat. The fying wires link the envelope to the burner rame and are connected to theburner and basket cables by means o locking carabiners. As an option balloons can be tted with a scoop suspendedin hook-up loops at the bottom o the envelope.

Parachute VentThe parachute vent is a sel-reseting system that provides controlled air defation. A velcro tabs are sewed bothat the edge o vent hole and parachute panels or the purpose o sealing them together during infating. Aterenvelope infation the parachute is held in position by the internal overpressure that pushes it towards the inner
load tapes o vent hole and closes tightly the envelope. The parachute is opened by a pull on an rip line and resetsitsel a ter rip line releasing.

Smart VentThe Smart Vent is similar in appearance and use to a parachute vent in all respects except during landing. Lite VentLite Vent is a rapid defation system, similar to a Smart Vent, which oers a more ec ient venting action. It is ttedwith three activat ion ropes. The red/white rope is or in-fight controlled venting only. The red rope has the sameunction as in a standard Smart Vent. The ripping action can be reversed by pulling on the white reset rope. Further

7.. BasketThe basket serves w ith the aim o crew/load and uel cylinders transporting. On the basket walls there are openingsproviding passages or strapping in uel cylinders. Flexible rods t into basket and burner rame sockets to supportthe overhead burner rame system. The load-bearing basket cables orms a cont inuous sling around the basket
and together with the support rods are coated w ith padded suede covers. The prescribed basket equipment andinstruments are secured to the inner basket side. The instrument box with LUN instruments should be attached tospecial basket through-holes. 7..3 Burner
The burner consists o one or more burner units and burner rame.The burner units itsel is assembled rom the main fight valve and vaporizing coil ended with jets. Flight burner
ignition is achieved with a pilot burner. Late model burners utilise burner units equipped with a valve and whisperburner jet. In a double or more burner conguration, a transer crossover valve/cock can be used (according to theburner type) providing a cross-eed capability between the two main fight valves.The main fight burner / valve operates w ith the liquid phase o uel gas supplied by a main liquid hose ending inhand operated couplings. It is operated by a fight valve lever / blast valve. Gas is automatically ignited by the pilotburner. With the v iew o uel gas observ ing, there is a manometer connected to the main fight valve.The pilot burner works with the vapour phase o uel gas conducted by means o its pr ivate supply hose, or romhose main fight valve (liquid phase over pressure transormer). It stays igniting during the whole fight. The gaspressure is reduced to the operating pressure by a pressure regulator providing with the opportunity o an optimalfame sett ing. This is not applicable or burner with pressure transormen (without hose vapour phase). The pressureregulator is component o the conduct hose coupling or vapour phase valve on the c ylinder valve (with respect to thetype). The pilot burner utilises a piezoelectric igniter or easy operation. The piezo ignition system is controlled by
repeated depressions or turnings (according to the type), until the pilot burner re-lights.The whisper burner / liquid re runs with the liquid phase o uel gas conducted directly to the jet by a branch romthe fight valve. It is controlled by means o a cock valve opening connected with the main fight burner room, or bywhisper burner lever pulling (with respect to the type). The whisper burner is automatically ignited by the pilot light.The burner rame is stainless tube rame. The burner units are swivel-mounted in the inner burner rame or joint,which in its turn is sw ivel-mounted in the outer rame (this provides a 2 - axis gimballed system). At each corner theburner rame has lugs, where the envelope and basket load-bearing carabiners hook up, and tube swinging or xedsockets (see the type), to accept the nylon rods.

7.3 cntrl Systems
7.3.1 Enelpe
Red activat ion rope o parachute ventIn case o the red rope act ivating by a pilot, the parachute panel is pulled down by all over area o its c ircumerenceat the same time and controlled air venting starts. When the red rope is released, the vent panel resets it sel to theormer position and closes the envelope vent hole.
Red/white activat ion rope o Smart VentIn case o the red/white rope activating by a pilot, the centre o the vent panel is pulled the outer edges o the paneldown at the same time and to allow controlled venting. When the red/white rope is released, the vent panel resetsitsel to the ormer position and closes the envelope vent hole. The rope should have sucient slack in order not tostand in the way o the red rope venting.
Red activation rope o Smart VentIn case o the red rope act ivating by a pilot, the centre o the vent panel is pulled down into the balloon. This causedthe panel to orm a vert ical plume in the centre o the vent aperture to allow a clear path or air to escape quickly outo the envelope. The Smart Vent can be resealed by the red/white activat ion rope pulling.
Red/white activat ion rope o Lite VentIn a Lite Vent the red/white rope is a vent rope. With the vent panel in place, pulling on the red/white rope curlsthe edges o the vent panel down whilst the centre o the panel remains in place. When the rope is released the ventpanel res eats.Red activation rope o Lite VentIn a Lite Vent the red rope has exactly the same unction as in Smart Vent. The Lite Vent may be resealed by pullingon the white activat ion rope.
White activation rope o Lite VentPulling the white reset rope spreads the vent panel to the closed position. In turbulent conditions the vent panelmay be held in place by pulling on the white rope.
Black and green activation ropes o rotation ventIn case o activating, let or right slits open sending out air caused controlled balloon rotation to the right or let;the black rope (tape) or let and the other green tape or r ight hand envelope rotation.
7.3. Burner
Main Blast valveIt opens the liquid phase inlet to the burner. Ater activating, the fight light burns.
Whisper Burner valveIt opens the liquid phase inlet to the burner. Ater opening, the whisper light burns.
Transer crossover valveThe transer valve provides a cross-eed capability between burner units behind the Blast valve. When activat ing,both burner units burn by any Blast valve opening.

7.4 Fuel System
The uel system consists o uel cylinders and a burner. Supply hoses with connecting couplings are a part o eachburner. The uel system represents two circuits, a liquid phase circuit (primary one) and vapour phase circuit.
The major uel closing - ball cock or valve, independent or each circuits, is a component o the uel cylinder. Themanometer indicating the uel pressure is located on the control burner panel. The foat gauge with indicator placedon the propane cylinder reads uel quantity. The max ll bleed valve checks the max liquid uel level in the cylinder.
7.5 Seats and Saety harness
No seat is used. Crew should hold internal basket rope handles during taking-o and landing. Min. one handle mustbe available or each crew member. The pilot should control passenger moving in the basket.Further saety harnesses or crews are not required.
7.6 Baae Rm
Baggage is transported in the basket area assigned to crew.Their weight must be taken into account or the max take-o weight.Baggage should not have any sharp, rough and dangerous edges and must be secured against motion in the basket.
7.7 oter Equipment
7.7.1 Drp lineIt provides balloon handling near by the ground. The drop line, rolled up in a text ile casing above the basket foor,is xed to the basket wall. Free ending o the drop line is secured by means o a carabiner at the loop on the basket
body. Beore activat ing, the ree end with carabiner should be clipped to an envelope fying wire carabiner and theline itsel is cast rom the basket with the v iew o handling by ground crews.
7.7. Fire extinuiser, eat-resistant lt and frst aid kitThe assessment mentioned above should be operated in case o re or body injury only. The location is at separateholders or a combined wall-side pocket on the inner basket side.

8. BALLooN oPERATIoN & MAINTENANcE
8.1 IntrdutinThis Sect ion contains manuactur s recommended procedures or proper ground handling and servicing o theballoon. It also identies certain inspection and maintenance requirements which must be ollowed i the balloon isto retain that new-balloon perormance and dependability.Balloons are very simple air crats. Thereore, the balloon parts not mentioned in this capture do not solicit anydetailed comments on operation and maintenance.
8. Inspetin Perids
The qualication on balloon airworthiness seems to be keeping prescribed inspections and urther neededinspections not tabulated below but determined by any applicable nation, where the balloon is registered/operated,aviation regulations and instructions.The scope, licence and procedures concerning the inspection carry ing out are mentioned in the Maintenance Manual,related to the particular balloon.Summary o inspect ions prescribed by the manuacturer:

(1) At operating period determination by both fight hours and calendar months limitations, the service period isapplied that starts rst. The 100th t ime limit can be exceeded up to max 5 hours, under condition that the breachis used or the fight completing started beore the 100th limit reaching. The operating period, exceeding the100th interval, must be included as a hours fown relating to the next 100th inspection.
(2) At operating period determination with calendar month limitations, the revision has to be made on the balloonor its parts t ill the last day o the month, in which the last inspection was carr ied out ater the dened limitexpiration.
(3) Determination o inspection term is based on the date o production or date o inspection i any marked on eachcylinder.
8.3 Balln Alteratins and Repairs
Contact the balloon manuacturer beore each adjustment and in case o serious revisions or repairs (aectedthe airworthiness) also with the FAA in advance.All balloon adjustments and repairs should be done with respect to the Maintenance Manual, related to theparticular balloon. Do not carry out any revision or repair that is not approved in the Maintenance Manual o yourballoon and instead contact the manuacturer or approved repair shop.
