Was a busy town called Makkah.

People came from faraway.

To buy things.

People came to sell things.

They came to visit the Kabah too.

Before Islam people came to Makkah to pray to the idols.

The people said the idols were their gods.

They said the idols could help them.

But the idols could not help anyone.

Lots of people lived in Makkah.

Some people in Makkah did magic.

Some tried to tell the future.

Some people were rich in Makkah.

Some people were poor.

Some people were slaves.

Slaves had to work very hard.

The rich people were bad to the poor and the slaves.

The people said girls were bad luck.

Glossary

Desert – an empty lonely place.

Idol – a false god, can be in different forms such as a picture or a statue.

Kabah – the House of Allah that Prophet Ibraheem, peace be upon him, built with his son Ismaeel, peace be upon him.

Makkah – the town where the Kabah is.

Slave – a person who belongs to another person. A slave has to do what his master tells him or her to do. They are not free.
