Easter Term, Week 1
Welcome back Fitz!
Exams are looming, ducks appear to have taken
over the college and spring has well and truly
sprung. If the library’s getting you down and not
even Chris’ juice and biscuits can help, then fear
not- there’s lots going on this week to get involved
in, from studies to concerts to the Wolfson
Howler.
Of course, if leaving college isn’t really your thing,
the JCR are holding an Easter egg hunt in the
grounds this Sunday with guaranteed chocolate for
just £1 entry. Get to the buttery at 1.30pm to take
part.
Have a great week one! Anna xx

'Riots Reframed'
Film Screening
and Panel
Discussion with
Fahim Alam
(Director)
Please join us on 8th May for
the Cambridge screening of
the powerful
independent documentary
film 'Riots Reframed'. This
feature-length film seeks to
reframe London's 2011 riots
through voices of resistance.
It takes the viewer through a
journey that begins in
Tottenham and spirals out to
address issues of racism,
police, power, government,
prison, war and resistance.
The film is a radical social
commentary and oral history,
which synthesises a number of
voices, from prominent
social, cultural and political
analysts, to prisoners still
recovering from time inside.
'Riots Reframed' was
produced and directed by
Fahim Alam, an Oxford law
graduate raised in
Hackney, who was falsely
arrested,
imprisoned and tagged for
'violent disorder' during the
2011 riots. The screening will
be followed by an audience-
led discussion with Fahim
Alam, amongst other
panellists (details of
which will be revealed closer
to the time). Do join us for
this exciting event and add
your voice to the discussion!
Thursday 8th May 2014, New
Divinity School, St John's
College, Cambridge.

Cambridge Humanities Review The CHR is seeking submissions for its seventh issue, due to be released at the end of Easter Term. The Review was launched in Easter 2012 and, alongside many talented student contributors, has featured pieces by Rowan Williams, Maurice Glasman, Alistair Campbell and numerous professors. We will gladly print essays of 1500-2500 words on topics of your own choosing in any area of the arts and humanities, nourished by your own academic research or by any extracurricular interests you may have. We also accept reviews of 1500-2500 words of new academic works or exhibitions and collections based in Cambridge or beyond. If you wish to see a list of suggested titles, please visit our website at www.cambridgereview.weebly.com. Footnoting is not required, but it is requested that contributors follow the MHRA style guide as far as possible. Submissions should be challenging and detailed, however we ask that they be of interest and accessible to an audience wider than that of the writer's own individual discipline. All successful contributors will be fully acknowledged in the printed copy of the review, which will be distributed throughout the colleges, faculties and departments of Cambridge. Cambridge Hands-On Science (CHaOS) need student volunteers!
CHaOS is a student society which aims to show children and families that science is exciting, and something that they can
understand. We're now recruiting volunteers for our 2014 Summer Roadshow – where we take a mini-bus of volunteers and a van
full of experiments camping around the country for 7 weeks in the summer, visiting schools, town halls and Scout jamborees. What
would I do? Most volunteers come on the roadshow with us for about a week. You'd get to talk to lots of children and families,
while playing with fun/noisy/messy science experiments. In the evening we do sociable stuff, such as BBQs at the beach or our
campsite. It's lots of fun, great experience in engaging the public, helpful for your CV and much better than a week of real work
(plus it shouldn't cost you any more than your time)!
Sounds great! How do I sign up? Just fill in our sign-up form **BY TUESDAY 29th APRIL** at
http://www.chaosscience.org.uk/node/1576. Any questions, contact us at contact@chaosscience.org.uk.
