Bluetooth History

1994: Bluetooth is defined by Ericcson.

1998: Ericcson, IBM, Intel, Nokia, and Toshiba formed

Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group)

1999: The first Bluetooth consumer product, a hands-free

mobile.

2003: Each week more than 1 million Bluetooth-enabled

products were sold

2011: more then 3 billon Bluetooth-enabled products

and 14,000 BT SIG member.

2011: BT Version 4.0, Bluetooth low energy (BLE)

Bluetooth Technology

•Wireless audio, voice and data

• Personal Area Network {class 2(10m), class 1(100m)}

• Non license 2.4GHz ISM band

• Low power consumption (20-30mA for 115Kbps)

• Data rates (~1Kbps-2Mbps throughput)

Tigaro WirelessTigaro WirelessTigaro WirelessTigaro Wireless Part 1Part 1Part 1Part 1

7

Bluetooth Technology

• Frequency hopping spread-spectrum (79 channels)

• Piconet: one master and up to 7 slaves

• Scatternet: grid of piconet

• Placed almost in each mobile phone or laptop

• BT Profiles

Board design Vs. Module

•More then 3-5K units

• Cheaper

• Smaller and flexible

• Defined FW application

• More develop risk & Time

• Need for BT SIG Fee & Test

• Less then 3-5K units

• Expensive

• Define protocol

• Less flexible

• Time to market

• No need for BT SIG Fee
