Inventions

The Middle Ages had a long time span, many things were invented despite all the disease and famine. Even though these inventions are basic they are very important to our society today.

The Hourglass

The hourglass may have been invented before the middle ages but they were first recorded in the 13th century. The hourglass helped sailors during the middle ages measure time while out at sea. After a couple of years it became a item used in many homes. Even though not many people have hourglasses today they helped us create more ways to measure time like the watch.

Eyeglasses

Another invention of the middle ages were eyeglasses. First recorded in 1268 by Roger Bacon, glasses were already being used in Europe and China. It has not been proven who used them first. The first time someone was painted with glasses was in 1352.
