Jimmy Page

• Guitarist of Led Zeppelin

• Born Jan. 9, 1944• Worked as a session guitarist.• Joined the Yardbirds in 1966.• The Yardbirds broke up in 1968. Page held the rights

to the name.• Page decided to form The New Yardbirds, to perform

concerts the band had committed to previously.

John Paul Jones

• Bassist of Led Zeppelin

• Born Jan. 3, 1946• Did session work for numerous bands, including the

final Yardbirds album, along with Jimmy Page.• He requested to be a part of any future projects Page

was involved in.• Page contacted Jones to play as bassist for The New

Yardbirds.

Robert Plant

• Vocalist of Led Zeppelin

• Born Aug. 20, 1948• Was recommended to Page by Terry Reid.• After hearing Plant sing, Page asked him to join The

New Yardbirds.

John Bonham

• Drummer of Led Zeppelin

• Born May 31, 1948• Died Sept. 25, 1980• Was the drummer for Band Of Joy, which featured

Robert Plant on vocals.• Plant recommended to Jimmy Page that Bonham be

invited to join.• Despite getting offers to join other bands for more

money, Bonham joined The New Yardbirds.

The New Yardbirds

• The New Yardbirds completed all of The Yardbird’s previous commitments.

• After finishing their tour, they started work on their first album together.

• After a comment made by Keith Moon (drummer of The Who), the band changed it’s name to “Led Zeppelin”.

• The band completed their first album in one month, and released it (in the UK) in January of 1969.
