Guided Imagery Overview

• Guided Imagery (GI) is an active process where thoughts are purposely directed and “guided” to create a desired result. It has the ability to influence the mind, body, emotions and spirit.

• The success of guided imagery is due to the fact that the beliefs we “create” in our minds are just as powerful whether they are real or imagined.

Guide Imagery Overview(continued)

• Through the simple process of visualization, we are able to send an instruction to our brain to create new beliefs or outcomes.

• This program is for patients who are undergoing cardiac bypass program – pre-operatively, intra-operatively, post-operatively and 21 days post discharge.

Guided Imagery Overview(Process)

• The identified patients will be provided with Guided Imagery CD’s containing powerful suggestions to promote relaxation and accelerate the healing process.

• Guided imagery will also be provided in the Operating Room while undergoing the procedure and in PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit).

• A tool will be created in order to monitor anxiety and pain response. May consider a control group for comparison.
