State President Report Terry Longberry
July 2020 Dear Brothers: In lieu of our cancelled State Convention and per State Aerie By-Laws, an Executive Board Meeting was held at Falls Creek Aerie 965 on June 13, after which the newly elected State Aerie Officers were installed. These Officers with whom I will serve for this Fraternal Year are listed on the front cover of this newsletter. Congratulations to all. I had asked, years ago, for current Eastern Regional President & PSP 2009-2010 Larry Mendenhall (Littlestown 2226) and Past Eastern Regional President & PSP 1998-1999 Rich Hancock (Tarentum 699) to be the Installing Officers for me. On the way to Falls Creek, Rich had car trouble. Past Grand Worthy President & PSP 1984-1985 Bob Wahls (Carlisle 1299) stepped in for Rich. Along with these two, and Past Eastern Regional President & PSP 1993-1994 Ted Minich (New Bethlehem 1860), the Installation of State Officers was very nice. Thank you to all four of them. I was an honored that Eastern Regional Madam President Kathy Kovacs (Depew, NY 2692) drove down for my installation. Aerie 965 had just recently reopened after being COVID shut-down. I stayed, after the meeting and Installation for some refreshments. Our bar stewards were the very helpful and charming Megan and Diane. In the evening, Kathy, Larry and his wife Kellie, and First-Year State Trustee Mike Delio and his wife State Madam Chaplain Becky Delio (both Falls Creek 965) had a wonderful dinner at The Pine Inn. Sunday morning, Larry and Kellie and Third-Year State Trustee Ray Roberts (Carrick 1520) and his wife Sandy breakfasted at a Dutch Pantry. We had good food and good conversation. I feel that it is my duty to inform all of you from the beginning to the end of my year the quality and frequency of my meals on assignments. I secretly can be known as the “fork II” in honor of Past State Membership Chairman Jim Crossan (Tony Angelo 01188). I have not been stream-lined whistle-bate for several decades. It is likely that fact will remain. The State Ladies Auxiliary chose, because of COVID, to split their installation into east and west. On June 27, the Officers from the East were vested to their Chairs at Carlisle 1299. The Ladies of the west, along with the new State Madam President, Pat Rodríguez, were installed at New Kensington 533. Pat’s theme for her year is “Don’t Monkey With Your Health, As Health is King” with an emphasis on suicide prevention. Pat worked as a nurse for 48 years. I attended the State Auxiliary Installation on the west at New Kensington. I was happily seated with PMSP Ruth Jordan and her husband John (New Kensington 533); PSMP Debbie Baily (Freedom 1429); PMSP Jeannie Tressler (Connellsville 493); PSMP Sue Voigt (Waynesburg 598); Pat’s husband of 58 years, Ramón; and PMSP Carol Greiner (New Kensington 533). Pat also named Carol as her State Living Angel for the year. I concur that Carol is an angel [with very cold hands but a very warm heart]. As I noted above, I will tell you that the catering was excellent and that I enjoyed both entrées. While there it was very nice to meet: Treasurer Ed, Trustee Junior, Chaplain Bill, Secretary Mark, JPWP John and WP Joe. The 27th brought three conflicting State events. Other than the two State Auxiliary events, PSP Orville McCracken was presented, as a surprise, at his Home Aerie Clearfield 812, a plaque signifying his induction into the Grand Aerie Hall of Fame. This honor was presented by my State Advisor & PGWP Bob Wahls. State Vice-President Jeremy Frits (Sunbury 503) gave my regrets at not being able to attend and my pride of Orville. Congratulations. It is well deserved. New York Past Worthy President, Past Eastern Regional President, Past Grand Aerie Officer Pat Gray has passed away from a stroke. He was a good friend to me and a great friend to the Pennsylvania State Aerie. Pat was instrumental in creating the International F.O.E. Children’s Advocacy Day event and was a member of the Grand Aerie Hall of Fame. God Bless his wife, Judy, and their family. Fraternally, Terry L. Longberry Pennsylvania State Aerie Worthy President
The best advice that I can give: Do your work and clean-up after your-self.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Matthew 7:12). Put legs to those “thoughts and prayers”.
Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Social distance.

MESSAGE FROM THE GRAND AERIE
Brothers & Sisters,
The last few weeks have been unlike any we have seen before due to the coronavirus crisis and as we continue to abide by the orders of our respective States and Provinces, we know that many of you have important questions about operations moving forward.
One of the primary concerns is in regard to local Aerie and Auxiliary Elections. Per the Grand Aerie Constitution & Statutes, Nominations are to be held annually at the last meeting in April. Obviously, this will not be possible for the majority of our Aeries and Auxiliaries this year.
Those that are still able to meet must proceed as outlined in the Constitution & Statutes. Those that cannot meet, by order of the Grand Worthy President, should proceed in the following manner:
First meeting after re-opening: Nomination of Officers Second meeting after re-opening: Election of Officers At least 5 days after Elections: Installation of Officers
In the event a local Aerie or Auxiliary would like to expedite this process, they may do so only by following the Constitutional requirements regarding holding a Special Meeting, found in Section 72.2.
The format and voting time for your elections must follow what is outlined in your local Aerie or Auxiliary by-laws. All current officers will remain in their respective offices until your successor is duly elected and installed.
We’ve also received many questions and concerns regarding upcoming dues. The Grand Aerie has made the decision to cover the cost of the first dues reminder that is being sent out to all members who still have yet to renew. Local Aeries and Auxiliaries will NOT be charged anything for the first reminders.
At this point, the Grand Aerie remains committed to the May 31 dues deadline, with a 30 day grace period extending until June 30, and we will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks as things progress.
Lastly, we’ve heard from many people about the various small business loans being offered on the state and federal level in the wake of this crisis. We want to remind everyone to follow the word of the Constitution and Statutes regarding obtaining any financial assistance as an Aerie or Auxiliary, which means you would need the approval of your membership.
We know nothing about this delicate time is easy. Several of our fellow brothers and sisters have fought and continue to fight the coronavirus. Many more continue to serve on the frontlines as doctors, nurses, first responders, etc., to protect and heal those fighting the virus.
To all, we hope you and your families remain safe throughout this time and we can’t wait to see you all on the other side of this, stronger than we’ve ever been.
