ERDAS Extensions 2016 3
This document describes the enhancements for ERDAS Extensions 2016 which has been
released to support ArcGIS 10.4 and ArcGIS 10.4.1. ERDAS Extensions 2016 includes Stereo
Analyst for ArcGIS, Feature Assist for ArcGIS and Terrain Editor for ArcGIS. Although the
information in this document is current as of the product release, see the Hexagon Geospatial
Support website for the most current version.
This document is only an overview and does not provide all of the details about the product's
capabilities. See the online help and other documents provided with ERDAS Extensions for
more information.
Windows 10 The official release version of Windows 10 has now been tested and certified as supported with
ERDAS Extensions 2016.
ERDAS Extensions 2016 updates several new technology areas which were introduced in ERDAS Extensions 2014. The key areas include ERDAS Foundation
Intergraph Licensing
ERDAS IMAGINE 2016 core technology
ERDAS Foundation ERDAS Foundation is a bundle of several components which are shared by multiple
ERDAS-branded products. This includes providing support for EGM 2008 (Earth Gravitational

Model) geodetic datum in all ERDAS vertical-datum-aware products. Rather than require you to
download multiple, redundant copies of this large datum (and other capabilities) for each
product you install, ERDAS Foundation is a uniform, prerequisite installer that delivers a single
copy of EGM 2008 and several other large files used across the ERDAS product lines.
The principal drivers for this change are as follows: An accelerating trend of growth in geodetic datums of the world, which are being collected
with increasing precision and density, and which are updated more frequently to reflect seismic and volcanic changes in the Earth’s surface.
A firm decision by ERDAS that all of our vertical-datum-aware products must support the
latest Earth Gravitational Model (EGM 2008), at the highest level of precision. A decision that all ERDAS products share a single copy of this large datum, and all current
and future large datum models we choose to support.
A consequence of these decisions is that many ERDAS products now require a two-step
installation process. First, you must install ERDAS Foundation, and then you can install any
number of ERDAS applications.
This reflects our commitment to fully support high-precision coordinate accuracy, and to
handle coordinate systems consistently across the entire ERDAS product line.
Intergraph Licensing With this release of Extensions we have upgraded to the current release of the Intergraph
Licensing 11.13.2. Now all Hexagon-Geospatial products utilize the same version of licensing
technology. Refer to the ERDAS Extensions 2016 Installation guide for license configuration
information. Note that new license codes are required to operate this product.
ERDAS IMAGINE 2016 Core Technology We have upgraded the Extensions product to use the ERDAS IMAGINE 2016 core libraries
which allow us to take advantage of extra sensor models and raster format enhancements
released with ERDAS IMAGINE 2016 products.
ERDAS Extensions 2016 5

ERDAS Extensions 2016 3
Stereo Analyst for ArcGIS
CR # Summary Description / How to Reproduce
1-LFNJMW
Definition query is not
taken into account in
Stereo Window
Definition query in ArcMap 2D View is not applied in the
Stereo View. Steps to reproduce:
1. In Stereo Analyst Options->Stereo Display, check "Use Map
Layer Visibility in Stereo Window"
2. Load layer from file geodatabase or ArcSDE
3. Load images
4. Set Definition Query for layer -> Definition Query is not
taken into account in Stereo Window, all features draw
1-L0YPTR SAFA isn’t bringing
across the vertical
datum of the block file
even if it shows on
import window.
Problem could be reproduced by using vertical datum
Ausgeoid09 or ETHZ Switzerland and ADS80 images. Z values
are incorrect, out by about 30m.
1-K5WC9E Clip extent only clips
on AOI, not on image
The clipping was done incorrectly on the intersection between
AOI and image pair.
1-K3U2C8 ArcMap crashes when
a layer file is dragged
from a folder with
German umlauts
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a folder with German umlaut, for example,
Tästfölder.
2. Save a raster as layer file to that folder
3. Drag the layer file from Windows Explorer (or the catalog
window) into ArcMap. ArcMap crashes.
1-K3FM3R ArcMap hangs after
opening a second
stereo view
After doing a right-click on the stereo pair to open in new
multi-view, the new window flashes and the system hangs
after about 30 seconds. After another 4 minutes the system
comes back and both windows can do roaming without issues
for a while. However, the system hangs again subsequently

and intermittently. CPU is maxed out during the hanging.
1-C4OE63 Customized ArcGIS
Add Ins do not appear
in Button Mapping
Categories List
"Add Ins Button Menus" are missing in the Categories list of
the Stealth 3D Button Mappings. This was not the case in
Extensions 2011.
1-99M6PP Unable to import
block and pushbroom
projects
When importing some of pushbroom and LPS block projects, a
message appeared "Failed to open the selected project. Check
the spatial reference of the project is correct and supported."
1-6CGD6K Preferences set in
SAfA options not used
in new ArcMap
projects
New ArcMap projects should use the preference settings in
SAFA.pdf. However, this does not work. For example, the
arcmap_display_option variable in SAFA.pdf is not used.
Instead the “TOC” option is always used, even though the “FP
– Footprints of Oriented Images” is set in SAFA.pdf.
1-KSGPWP Stereo symbology
uses polygon outline
instead of fill color
When 'Use Map Symbology' is enabled, the 2D map symbol's
outline is used rather than its fill color. Even though
'use_polygon_fill_color_as_outline' is set to true in SAFA.pdf,
the polygon outline color is still used in Stereo View.
1-LR64HX 3D snap problematic 3D snap is not working correctly when editing and snapping to
an existing object (point, line or polygon). Coordinates X and Y
are OK, but the Z coordinate matches the Z coordinate of the
position of stereo mouse in the stereo window instead of the
Z coordinate of object to which we want to snap.
For example, when using command Edit Vertices and moving
with vertex of existing object towards the other existing
object in order to snap, 3D snap is not working correctly.
When creating new objects (point, line or polygon) and
snapping to existing objects, 3D snap works fine most of the
time. But sometimes the Z coordinate is not the same as the Z
coordinate of existing object (the difference is up to 20 cm).
1-LSDSG4 Selection units in
pixels are not working
Under the Selection tab on the Terrain Editor Options dialog,
the Map and Pixels options of Selection Units have the same
behavior. The Selection Tolerance value is always applied in
map instead of pixel units even though the Pixels option is
selected.
ERDAS Extensions 2016 8
CR # Summary Description / How to Reproduce
1-JMZ522 Enhancement request
to activate Toggle
Squaring Mode when
Replace Geometry
tool is used
Added functionality to activate and use Toggle Squaring Mode
at the same time when Replace Geometry tool is used.
1-J2ILG8 Enhancement request
to list stereo pairs in
sequential order
Added functionality to list stereo pairs in ascending order. It is
available via the preference “Sort Image Pair List in Ascending
Order” in SAFA.pdf.
1-8WWZ0T Enhancement request
to add DVP Importer
Added support for DVP importer.
1-7RA7QT Enhancement request
to recognize ESRI
Add-In
commands/categories
Added support to recognize ESRI Add-In
commands/categories. Add-Ins like custom extensions,
custom buttons, and custom tools can now be mapped to a
mouse button.
1-6QWSKP Enhancement request
to switch off all vector
layers in stereo view
Added ability to switch off all vector layers in the stereo tab of
Table of Contents. This eliminates the time consuming process
of manually switching off large number of feature layers in
stereo view. This is added as user sometimes wants to display
50 to 100 layers in the Map View but not in the Stereo View.
1-6FM2IK Enhancement request
to go to previous/next
extent
Added viewing functionality "Go back to previous extent" and
"Go forward to next extent" in the Stereo View.
FeatureAssist for ArcGIS
CR # Summary Description / How to Reproduce
1-1HZK-21800 Save edits
command should
look for existing
unsaved edit
sketches
Steps to reproduce:
1. In FeatureAssist, create an edit sketch.
2. Before finish sketch, click Save edits in Editor.
We will lose the sketch without any alerts. We should ask
whether the user wants to save the sketch before proceeding
further.
ERDAS Extensions 2016 9
CR # Summary Description / How to Reproduce
1-1ILW-21500 Snapping issue in
Ring Edit tool
With Squaring Mode enabled, snapping to guides works only
on the first two clicks. Snapping is not working correctly in
conjunction with active constraints like planar constraint and
squaring constraint.

i Systems with less than 4GB of RAM will page memory to the hard disk and not perform as well as systems
with 4GB. The page file (swap file) should be matched to at least 1.5 x the amount of RAM. Please refer to your operating system requirements.
ii Disk I/O is usually the slowest task in geospatial data processing. Faster hard disks improve productivity. Reading data from one disk, writing temporary data to a second disk, and writing data to a third disk improves performance. Disk arrays improve productivity, but some RAID options slow performance. Network disk drives are subject to network limitations.
iii Windows provides a generic OpenGL driver for all supported graphics cards. However, an OpenGL-optimized graphics card and driver are recommended for these applications.
iv Stereo-enabled graphics cards supporting quad-buffered stereo are needed to view three-dimensional stereo. Because all cards do not work in all computers, verify that the card you select is compatible with your computer.
