Prof. Magdy Abou Rayan
President of Water Technology Association
It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the Fourteenth International Water Technology Conference. This conference has already established itself as a key event in which the most influential researchers in the different Water-related fields and regulators from related governmental bodies and firms can come together to exchange insights and to influence each others' agendas.
Such a dialogue has never been more important. We live in a world in which water resources are being depleted rapidly and in an increasingly threatening form. Over the past few years, the problem is manifested in the shortage, contamination of available water resources and incompatible reuse of wastewater resources.
The value of this conference lies in the opportunity it provides for an in-depth dialogue between regulators and the industry. It will provide opportunities for water quality professionals engaged in research, extension, and education to share knowledge and ideas, to identify and update emerging issues, and to network with related partner organizations.
I would like to see much more of this kind of collaboration. This is an opportunity for us all to come up with a sufficient vision of our current needs and future demand of water management technologies in the Arab region and the world. It is our work which will ultimately impact regulated firms. So, it is your chance to influence, please seize the opportunity to the full.
I would like to extend my warmest regards to every guest, participant, and observer joining our conference; hoping that it will be successful and fruitful.
Dear gratitude for conference sponsor Crown Prince Sultan Ben Abdulaziz Aal Saud and respected ministers for their auspices and support for the organization of this conference.

The twin streams of Egypt's history converge just below the Delta at Cairo, where the greatest city in the Islamic world sprawls across the Nile towards the Pyramids, those supreme monuments of antiquity. Every visitor to Egypt comes here, to reel at the Pyramids' baleful mass and the seething immensity of Cairo, with its bazaars, mosques and Citadel, and extraordinary Antiquities Museum. It's equally impossible not to find yourself carried away by the streetlife, where medieval trades and customs coexist with a modern, cosmopolitan mix of Arab, African and European influences. Egypt's Weather
It's hot and sunny for most of the year in Egypt and there's not much use for an umbrella, unless you use one to protect you from the sun. Winters (November to February) are generally mild although temperatures at night can get down to the 40's Fahrenheit (10 °C). Cairo Tower
A good place to enjoy a panoramic view of the city while sipping a beer in a slowly revolving restaurant. Located on Gazera Island (Zemalak) it is open from 9am-1am every day.
The Pyramids and the Sphinx
You won't want to miss one of Egypt's top attractions, the last surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Pyramid of Giza. There are in fact three main pyramids in Giza; the Great Pyramid of Khufu (or Cheops), The Pyramid of Kafhre and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaura. Each Pyramid is a tomb to a different King of Egypt. In front of the pyramids lies the Sphinx, or Abu al-Hol in Arabic, "Father of Terror". Carved out of a single block of stone, this enormous cat-like sculpture has mesmerized millions of visitors.

Sound and Light Show
A sound and light show centered around the Sphinx is a nightly occurrence. Although it may sound too touristy for some, everyone ends up learning some interesting facts about the Pyramids and shows are in several different languages. Khan EL Khalili Bazaar
It is famous for its unusual, typically oriental souvenirs, and handmade crafts. The Medieval atmospheres of this traditional market; together with the labyrinth layout of the streets; gives visitors o lot of pleasure and a glimpse into what medieval markets once were like.
Every visitor can take the opportunity to safely enjoy the walk through the narrow streets of Khan El-Khalili.
The Citadel of Saladin (EL-Qala)
It is located on a high hill that overlooks the old city of Cairo. Saladin built this fortress to protect the old city of Cairo, and it mainly consists of enclosure walls and watchtowers, as well as many, many gates! As every 120m there are gates into the Citadel that were built at various times in history. The architectural plan of the fortress resembles many of the ones that were built in Syria and Palestine at the time of the Crusades. Later on, the Citadel became a major training centre for the Egyptian army.
Egyptian Museums
Egypt is rich with many museums; in fact there are more than 34 museums all over Egypt. They usually have collections from a specific period, or part of the Ancient Egyptian history. The Open Air-Museum of Memphis
The Open Air Museum at Memphis is one of the “must see” sites in Egypt! The trip from Cairo only takes 45 minutes, it is only 20Km to the south, and the entrance fee is 21LE.

Office Address: P.O. Box 9298 SAIF Zone Sharjah, UAE Telephone: 971 4 368 4029 Fax: 971 4 368 4031 Superior Pipeline Fittings (SPF) are a British owned and managed Company, which was formed in the mid 1980’s as a manufacturer of pipe couplings, flange adaptors, dismantling joints, fittings and repair clamps. Originating from the Industrial north east of England, the company quickly became a major supplier to the newly privatized water companies working on and supplying some of the biggest projects undertaken in the history of the UK water industry. The company was responsible for introducing new innovative valve installation techniques via no shutdown methods and this became a major part of the SPF development. In 2003, the decision was made to locate and acquire a foundry and manufacturing facility in China which would eventually produce the entire SPF range of products for its worldwide market as well as being supply into the biggest water market in the world. Consultants were retained to find suitable partners/manufacturing facilities. In 2005, SPF engineers were sent from the UK to establish quality systems within the newly acquired business and management systems were installed to deal with the expected upturn in business from the domestic and export markets. Today SPF employs more than 500 people on a 65 acre site producing valves, fittings, adaptors, couplings and DMJ under ISO 9002 quality assurance and is the holder of the Community European (CE) mark. Our group companies are located in the UK, USA, China and the Middle East where we have offices and warehouses in Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In 2009, Superior Pipeline Fittings celebrates a 30 year long history of success within the water, wastewater, drainage, irrigation and district cooling markets and we welcome the opportunity of working with customers old and new in the creation of water related infrastructure projects within the MENA countries.
