Background

• Campus Master Plan--approved by the BOT in June 2005

• Developed by Zimmer Gunsul Fransca Architects after months of campus input and feedback

• Built on previous plans (RDG, Saarinen, and others)

• Intended as a 20 year roadmap for the physical campus

Campus Master Plan Goals

1) Enhance academic and student life 2) Sustain and enhance the admirable qualities of

the campus3) Make an identifiable place 4) Strengthen the student community and vitality

of the neighborhood5) Set example of environmental responsibility

Master Plan Objectives

1) The layout of buildings and open spaces should be supportive of the University’s academic and campus life missions.

2) Historic and other notable buildings and features should be respected and complemented by new facilities.

3) The configuration of the campus and appropriate signage should make it clear where to enter the University.

4) The campus and its environs should be a safe place.

5) Footpaths should be flanked by active building frontages.

6) Campus lighting should enable approaching people to recognize one-another.

7) Pedestrians should have priority within the campus.

8) Parking should be convenient yet inconspicuous on the perimeter of campus.

• Preserve the legacy of campus uses and architectural character

• Unify the campus by reducing the presence of vehicles and buildings in a green landscape

• Make new buildings compatible with the character of the campus
