Rio Grande do Sul Cardiology Society (SOCERGS) has 665 members, among them, 153 (23%) are women.

DCM (Heart Disease in Women) is a new SOCERGS’s Department (one year existence) committed in fighting against cardiovascular disease in women.

• From 2006 to 2009 more Women than Men died from CVD in RGS state, southern Brazil

• The mortality rate remains unchanged over the last years

• Data were obtained in the Health Government Department’s site, from the Rio Grande do Sul (RGS) state

• Among all types of CVD, CeVD is the leading cause of death in women

• IHD is the second one• Women use to do the prevention of breast

cancer and are unaware that CVD is the first one killer in any age(around 3 times more under 50 YO, and ten fold more over 50 YO)

• Considering only IHD, even in age under 50 YO, sometimes it kills more than breast cancer
