Location: Tongchuan City ( Around 3 hours from Xian)

Site Background:Stepping stones and a few tree trunks are the major crossings for more than 400 villagers to access the outside world. The site is next to a local central school, accommodating over 1,300 secondary school and 800 primary school students.

The Need:

During flooding seasons, the water can reach 2 meters high. Local villagers and school kids cannot but cross the river by another stone bridge 2km away.

Minority: Hui Per Capita Income Level: RMB1,140

Width of river: less than 10 meters

Water level: on average 0.5 meters

Site Background: This site is a major access for local villagers to go to temple, visit doctors, attend schools and access the outside world.

The Need:Currently a tree trunk and two broken electricity poles are their major crossing. When the water level is high, villagers and school kids have to ride on a local truck passing by, or simply wade across the river.

Project Highlights:The bridge design originates from the symbol of Islam – the Crescent. Additionally, the project team will make use of local natural materials and integrate features of local religion and environment into the bridge.
