Every “Yes” to God is a step toward Heaven, toward eternal life. Because this is what the Lord wants: that all His children may have life in abundance.
God wants us all with Him in His house! (Pope Francis, August 15, 2013)
My friends, if you, a family member, a friend or a coworker has not yet received the
sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, or Confirmation, we would like to help everyone say “Yes” to God and to take that further step toward heaven by inviting all to participate in our Cathedral Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program. This dynamic program, which begins in the fall and is offered in both Spanish and English, concludes at the Easter Vigil with our Bishop celebrating the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. There is no more powerful and beautiful liturgy than the Easter Vigil!
Our faithful team of R.C.I.A. leaders is looking forward to accompanying you, your family
member or your friend in this journey of faith! Nobody can get to heaven alone. To be Catholic means to offer to another the company of faith. And that is what this program is all about. It is about getting to know the stories of one another and then sharing the very reasons for our belief and our faith. What a blessing it will be for us to get to know you, share with you the beauty of our Catholic faith, as well as the warmth of the St. John’s Cathedral community. But most of all, those who choose to enter this journey of faith will be heavenly blessed by receiving the sacraments of the Church, most especially the Holy Eucharist. For as Pope Benedict had said:
“There is nothing magic in Christianity. There are no short cuts, but everything passes through the humble, patient logic of the grain of wheat which dies to give life, the logic of faith which moves mountains with the meek strength of God. For this reason, God wishes to renew humanity, its history and the universe by means of this chain of transformations of which the Eucharist is the sacrament.”
The sacraments of the Church have the power to bring heaven to earth, to rip apart the veil
that exists between the things unseen and seen. The sacraments allow humanity and eternity to commingle in mysterious, yet tangible ways. Through the sacraments, heaven comes to visit and to dwell with us and within us. In the sacraments we can hear the words of the Father spoken to His Son when He was baptized by John in the Jordan, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” How we all need to hear those heavenly words of truth and love. And how blessed we are to hear them in the sacraments of the Church!
This weekend, at all of the Masses, a form will be distributed to all those interested in joining
the R.C.I.A. program and receiving the sacraments of the Church. This form will provide us with the information needed in order that one of our team members can contact you directly regarding this opportunity of grace. On behalf of our team, we look forward to joining you in this journey of faith!

Nuestro fiel equipo de R. I.C.
