Cross Cultural Connection Newsletter Continuing the change!
October, November 2014
I generally take 100’s of pictures each month. I take pictures of people, places and things. Things include food, birds, animals, trees, flowers, whatever strikes my fancy!
The main event for me was from October 17 to 31. I went with IRI (Insight Resources
International) to the Philippines. We held a seminar for 10 men concerning World View, ABC thinking combined with a Bible study using the IBS (Inductive Bible Study) methods. The picture above is the group that attended. Seated in the front row are the presenters of the material: Cody Ching, Marie Panti, Me, Al Corson. Actually, I listened, and did not actively present anything except a smile! Al present the ABC concepts, Cody translated into Tagalog and Marie did the Bible Study. These 10 men of different ages are all church leaders from two churches. They had told Marie that they wanted to come because they all felt burned out and wanted something new. They got it! After only 3 days, they went home with new ideas of teaching and with excitement of what is possible with a different perspective of learning about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Even though I cannot understand Tagalog, I could see “light bulbs” turning on in the faces as they began to understand. They went home refreshed and with ideas bursting in their minds about possibilities for the future of their churches. Truly an amazing thing to see!
Other amazing sights were: 1. 4 hour traffic jam in Manila, 2. destruction from a recent typhoon, 3. 126 steps up to Marie’s place from the beach 4. Would you believe the eggplants around her house!!
And I can’t leave the Philippines without mentioning Mark Cajipe, whom many
of you have prayed for during his operation for a brain tumor: Mark is doing well, back at work. He has some physical limitations including not being able to sit normally in a chair, but sits with his legs folded up in front of him.

I enjoyed visiting with Mark, His brother Angel, and mother Annie.
Marie is also in this picture.
Since returning to Hong Kong on October 31 and this now takes us into November, I have been involved in a whirlwind of studies with several different people. Al has shared many times in informal and formal class situations, each drawing participants closer to an understanding of God and their own lives. This includes ME! I have changed the Friday Bible study teaching significantly. The ones attending are amazed (again, this includes ME) at the leading of the Holy Spirit during the class times. We are studying Matthew and it seems so easy to pull out different concepts concerning what we are reading and to have a better understanding of what God really intends for his followers to be doing. EXCITING! I think changes are in store for Fairview Park Christian Church as many of us learn and practice the ABC thinking. Come and see for yourself! I led songs at church this morning and even felt that God was at work in the song service. Scott’s message concerning Samson’s life and faith was meaningful. Watch it on YouTube!
There are always 50 million things I could share with you, but time and space do not allow for this. Let me close with some prayer requests: 1. FPCC is celebrating its 35th anniversary Dec. 7, THIS coming Sunday. 2. Jason Nichols and Al Corson and the IRI work. 3. My father, Richard Gudahl, has been in the hospital this past weekend with apparent heart trouble. 4. Thank you for those who responded specifically to my last newsletter (I am working on those issues and appreciate your input). 5. Those attending the various ABC and Bible study classes here at FPCC. 6. My preparations for next year return trip to the Philippines and possible furlough in the States. I am looking for a traveling companion for some of that time. 7. Marie and Cody’s continued IBS seminars in the Philippines. 8. Financial help to bring 2 Myanmar brothers to the scheduled training in March in Philippines.
May we all “put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men.” I Timothy 4:10.
