IP assignmentsWe use this layer 3 space:• 2711 = 192.168.211.0 , 255.255.255.0• 2712 = 192.168.212.0 , 255.255.255.0• 2713 = 192.168.213.0, 255.255.255.0

If multiple parties (or if not) each entity takes the last octet space below:

• Calit2 takes .1-.63• Chicago take .64-.127• Brazil/path = .128-.191• KEIO/other = .192-.254

So 2711 vlan Calit2 would take 192.168.211.1-.63

Remote Mentoring

• Overview• Cinema Master Class • Music Master Class • Cultural Ring• Final Considerations

Overview• Our first experience involved:

– Brazil:• USP (University of São Paulo).

– Spain:• UAB (Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona).• University Ramon Llull of Barcelona.• Music School of Sabadell.

As far as we know it was the first Master Class of Art involving Brazil and Europe.

Overview• Our goal is to foster Master Classes of Art among

different international universities and institutions making use of the Internet.

• The usage of sophisticated resources of Advanced Internet should not be mandatory.

• Our first challenge is to promote the collaboration among professors and students in order to teach and learn arts using Internet.

• When it is possible, the resources of Advanced Internet should be deployed.

Overview• Combination of telepresence and conference tools, like

DTVS and Conference XP, and HD quality digital formats for 35mm film were tested.

• In the Music Master class, it was given priority to music (audio) over video. – Conference XP with uncompressed audio (CD quality ) and

compressed video.

• In the Cinema Master class, there was a balance between high quality video and sound. – Conference XP with compressed video.

Cinema Master Class• Demonstrate how to use Internet as a medium

to teach and learn about Cinema in an interactive way involving remote sites.

• The film shown was “Spread through the Air” by Vera Egito.

• Participation:– Prof. Esther Hamburgo - School of Communication

and Arts of USP – Brazil.– Prof. Jordi Roigé - Facultat de Comunicació

Blanquern of the Universitat Ramon Llull, Barcelona – Spain.

Cultural Ring• Building an e-infrastructure for Arts and

Culture in Europe and beyond.– Project by i2Cat Barcelona, Spain.

http://www.i2cat.net

– Brazil should participate• Some institutions such as Brazilian Cinemateca (National

Archive for films), Cultural Center of São Paulo (similar to Pompidou Center in Paris), National Library of Rio de Janeiro, among others.

• Support from RNP (National Network for Education and Research) and Ministery of Culture.

– Open for International Participation

Final Considerations• Our goal is to establish permanent

collaboration between art institutions and schools from Brazil and other countries.– Investment on improving internal network

connections (fiber connections). – Need for training students and staff on video

and audio transmission techniques.

Final Considerations• Participation in the Cultural Ring initiative.• Collaboration with partners in CineCrid and

Internet 2.
