Maintenance

--Reconstruction costs can be more than three times the cost of 25 years of maintenance. Plus, proper maintenance can extend the life of a roadway by as much as 18 years.

--Congestion will cost the Texas economy an average of $20 billion per year over the next 15 years (rising from about $10.8 billion now to almost $30 billion in 2025).

--Currently, the cost of transportation for the average Texas household is estimated to be about $9,500, which takes into account fuel, maintenance, depreciation, tires, and insurance costs.

--The average Texas commuter spends about 37 hours per year stuck in traffic, which translates into an annual delay cost per commuter of $928. --If nothing is done, congestion will cause commuter delay in urban and metropolitan regions to double in 15 years from 37 hours per year to 74 hours per year. --The 37 hour increase in delay will cost the average household an additional $800 per year.

--In 2035, Texans, in total, will burn almost 7 million gallons of extra fuel because of traffic delays.
