Most change models don’t address how to increase our capacity to handle change. Resilience does. Resilience is the ability to remain productive, particularly during change. Research has shown that resilience can be learned. We don’t need to be born with it! In today’s projectized world of large scale change, the BA and PM’s ability to display resilience is a critical element of success. Successful Bas and PMs channel the energy of change to assist their teams and their organizations in achieving better project outcomes. The key for us is to develop our ability to be strategic and not reactive
We all have dreams and aspirations for something better. A better job, more recognition, experience in a new domain, a happier life, or maybe just a new hairstyle. So I can’t offer much help on hair styling, but I can share some tips and stories on how to exploit your uniqueness to create the very best possible version of YOU. After working and consulting for over 25 years, I’ve learned that the secret to happiness isn’t being the best in your field, but fulfilling your potential. Together we’ll explore why leveraging your strengths is far better than trying to fix weaknesses. We’ll experience inspirational examples of how you can overcome fears that are holding you back. We’ll play “Where’s Waldo?” to discover how personal branding is the key to opening doors. You don’t’ want to miss this fun, engaging and possibly politically incorrect session.
The age-old adage that what got us here won’t get us to what’s next applies to BA’s just as much as it does to anyone else. With that in mind, and with the recent release of the BABOK 3.0, now is the perfect time to engage in a global discussion about what business analysis really means. This session seeks to further that conversation by exploring 5 simple (but not always easy!) things BA’s everywhere need to do right now.
Let’s face it, there are just some conversations that you don’t want to have. There are some people you simply don’t want to talk to. What happens when we don’t? Everyone loses. It is perfectly natural for us to avoid difficult conversations. We fear rejection, retaliation, emotional outbreaks, the dismissal of our ideas, and those incredibly awkward moments. However, many conversations need to be had. The solution is not going to work and one person is the roadblock, the performance of an individual is lower than expected, an individual’s behavior is impeding team productivity, someone is dominating too much, and the list goes on and on. If we want healthy, productive teams and projects, crucial conversations must be had.
Its time to stop ranting, raving, complaining and avoiding, and to start having meaningful, persuasive conversations that make an impact. Are you ready for less stress and more successful conversations? Do you want behaviors to change? Do you want ideas to be heard? Then its time we have a crucial conversation about crucial conversations. This highly interactive and dynamic keynote will take you on a journey to discover the critical concepts of crucial conversations that will help you effectively discuss what matters most.

Change Management Tools & Techniques Sinikka Waugh, Your Clear Next Step Change on projects is inevitable, so why are we so surprised when things change? Why do project changes still create so much churn? Why does change create such a disruption in the project schedule and process? Why are there stakeholders who don’t know about changes or who aren’t consulted in time? Even if we try to protect the iron triangle of scope, time, and cost, why do changes seem so disrupting? Can’t we do this better? In this session, Change expert Sinikka Waugh will uncover specific, tactical, practical, and applicable tools to apply on projects that are designed to help Project Managers and the team anticipate, plan for, and manage project change more effectively. Get a better grip on change and be prepared for the next time something changes on your project. As a bonus, participants will leave with a template to request, record, and track change on projects.

Badass Business Analysis Techniques! Bob Prentiss, Bob the BA Badass Business Analysis techniques? You might be thinking “Cool! What are those?” or “I know lots of techniques already so this session probably is not going to be of any help”. Before you make any decisions, let me ask you the following question: Do any of the statements below ring true regarding a meeting you either recently attended or facilitated? The attendees during the brainstorming session were all zombified by the approach and the results. The icebreaker was frozen solid and “Let It Go” was all anyone could say. The decision model failed to make a decision and everyone muttered “thanks for wasting my time” as they left the room. The process modeling session took so long someone literally fell asleep at the table. If you have seen or experienced any of those scenarios, you might want to rethink the techniques you are using. Businesses today are changing rapidly. The same old techniques that you have been using may not be living up to the agility and speed required to succeed in this new dynamic marketplace of change. Are you ready to learn and practice some new and very helpful techniques you have never heard of before? Are you ready to expand your frame of reference and re-look at how you facilitate? It does not take a Badass Business Analyst to learn these new techniques, but if you are willing, you are well on your way to becoming a Badass Business Analyst!
Audience: BA Skill Level: All
Exploring Collaborative Games for Requirements Angela Wick, BA-Squared, LLC You have seen the new technique in the BABOK and want to explore it more! Come join us for a fun play date to play some requirements collaborative games. We will introduce, discuss, and play some collaborative games that will inspire you to work with your stakeholder differently to elicit, analyze and prioritize requirements. Come out and play!

Secrets to Becoming a Fair-Minded Critical Thinker Dayle Beyer, Inspire Excellence Learning To foster decision making, creativity and innovation, it is essential to be a critical thinker. Critical thinkers understand the big picture (systems thinking) as well as the details. They bring system thinking, logical thinking and creative thinking to bear on any situation. They question information, conclusions and points of view. They strive to be clear, precise and relevant. They seek to think beneath the surface, to be logical and fair. This course provides a practical framework for understanding critical thinking and provides strategies for developing critical thinking in all business and technical arenas. During this session, you will hear concepts which can dramatically improve your thinking to help you to consciously make faster and well thought out decisions. Additionally, you will: - Understand a practical framework for developing solid critical thinking skills. - Realize the fallacies and consequences of stinking thinking - Identify the three main kinds of thinkers - Know how to identify and solve the right problems and opportunities with problem-solving and appreciative inquiry models.
