Causal organism : Chilli leaf curl virus (Begomo virus )sub group: Bigeminivirus

Vectors(Transmitted by) : Whitefly (Bemicia tabaci) & also transmitted by mechanical methods such as a Grafting.

Host range : Annual and Perennial plants.

INTRODUCTION OF CHILLI LEAF CURL DISEASE

The leaf curl disease of chilli caused by chilli leaf curl virus. Which is transmitted by viruliferous /semipersitently by whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.). 

In India, Senanayake et al. (2006) have reported first time chilli leaf curl virus on chilli crop from Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

The virus consists of geminate isometric particles measuring 18 to 20 nm in diameter.

The symptom of the disease appears as upward curling of the leaves followed by reduction in their size which later turn pale yellow in colour.

The older leaves become leathery and brittle.

The affected plants become stunted. Fruits formation in susceptible

cultivars is rudimentary and distorted.

Upward lead curling, Stunting of plant, Deformed fruits

PREVENTING MEASURES :- Obtain seed and seedlings from disease free

source. Grow border crops(Maize, sorghum, pearl millet,

etc.). Encourage natural enemies by growing mixed

cropping. Control the vector by growing the seedlings under

net to prevent the whiteflies attack on the seedlings.

Use of Yellow sticky strip for the control of vector. Treat the seedlings with RAW COW MILK 15% for

20min and transplant.

CURATIVE MEASURES :- Spray 1% tobacco decoction or 5% vitex

decoction. Apply Neem Seed Kernel Extract(NSKE) @

5% found most effective. Apply Imidacloprid 17.8 SL (0.003%) was

most effective
