STATEMENT OF NOMINATION Why should this Vice President be recognized? Word Limit: 1,000
In my opinion, a great leader is not one who is born perfect, but one who is capable of growing
into success. Chris Chong did not start his term as Vice President extremely smoothly, but as soon
as the school year picked up and progressed, I realized that he is much more capable as a leader
and team mate than I had previously thought. It is my honor to be able to nominate Chris Chong,
Ann Sobrato Key Club Vice President, to be recognized as a Distinguished Vice President. When
Chris joined Ann Sobrato Key Club as a freshman, he was one of the most dedicated and active
members out of everyone and remained one up to this day. To this day, he has demonstrated his
dedication to service and leadership in Key Club International to better our community. Although
he did not start out as the most organized and punctual leader, I have seen his outstanding growth
throughout the years, especially during his term as a Vice President. I have acted as a role model
and mentor for him in organizing and managing Ann Sobrato Key Club and I have witnessed his
impressive growth as a Key Club leader. His ambitious and positive attitude kept him involved and
motivated in our club, despite the fact that he lives farther away from Division 12 South and most
of our club’s service events. Last term I was Ann Sobrato Key Club Vice President, and this term I
could see that Chris Chong’s eyes were set on following in my footsteps exactly. He strived for
excellence and would brainstorm new ideas to better the Key Club experience for our members.
After seeing me walk on stage to be awarded as a Distinguished Vice President at District
Convention 2013, I knew that Vice President elect Chris Chong wanted to follow the footsteps that
I took up onto that stage in front of thousands of Key Clubbers. He certainly owned up to the Ann
Sobrato Vice President expectations and served his term to its fullest. Thus, I am proud to nominate
Chris Chong to be recognized as a Distinguished Vice President of the CNH Key Club District.
Stay GOLDEN,
Kyle Dimla
My position as Vice President has proved to be one of the
greatest learning experiences in my life. The following letters
of recommendation are proof of the high reputation that I
have built with my Faculty advisor, Kiwanis advisor, and
Lieutenant Governor. They formally evince the result of my
accomplishments in the past year of my term and make me
realize that I am capable of reaching greater heights.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
3
Lindon Tran
Division 12 South Lieutenant Governor
662 Hathaway Court
San Jose, CA, 95136
17 February 2014
To whom it may concern:
I would like to recommend Chris Chong to receive the Distinguished Vice President
award.
Chris Chong has been an active leader within his community, showing his
commitment and dedication to service through his smile. Not only has he been an
impactful leader by helping bring Ann Sobrato Key club to new heights but he has
also contributed to the division as a Fall Rally North spirit coordinator and by giving
several club updates at Division Council Meetings.
Perhaps the most relevant demonstration of his growth as a leader and a Key Club
member has been his decision to run for Lieutenant Governor. Making the decision
to run is one of the hardest decisions to make as a Key Club member, but Chris had
the courage and strength to overcome this obstacle. To me, this is a sign of true
leadership and passion. Although he did not win the election, I strongly believe that
Chris will continue to grow as a leader throughout next year and will inspire others
just as he has during his term as a Vice President.
As a Vice President, Chris has contributed to the many accomplishments of the
members he serves. By being a major role in the planning process and by taking an
active part in leadership, he has paved the road for the members to follow. Ann
Sobrato Key Club members participated in every event that was available to them,
including Key Club Week, Division Council Meetings, Fall Rally North, and Key Club
Recruitment Week. Chris has been a role model by actively participating in these
events himself and by encouraging others to do so as well.
Lastly, I believe that Chris has shown great leadership skills as a Vice President and is
eligible to receive this award.
Sincerely,
Lindon Tran

To whom it may concern,
It is my privilege to recommend Chris Chong for Key Club Distinguished Vice
President for the California-Nevada-Hawaii District. Chris has long been one of
the most active members of the Key Club at Ann Sobrato High School, and is
currently one of the vice-presidents of the club. He is conscientious and hard-
working, whole-heartedly committed, and extremely enthusiastic. I have known
Chris not only through Key Club, but through two years of chemistry and AP
chemistry classes. I can attest to his strong character, intelligence,
perseverance, and commitment. He is an outstanding young man, and is
undoubtedly among the very best candidates you could hope to find. It is
without hesitation that I extend to Chris Chong my highest recommendation.
Sincerely,
Marc Lynn , Faculty Advisor

Serving as one of the Vice Presidents for my home club, I
completed all tasks delegated to me and took the initiative of
volunteering to do more tasks that needed chairing. Holding the
position of a Vice President in a recently chartered club gave me
the opportunity to contributing to the growth of a club from the start
and that helped me hone my leadership skills, fulfill responsibilities,
and grow as a leader. Alongside my AMAZING club board, I assisted
in the success of our club in terms of fundraising, membership, and in
service. The following checklist portrays my achievements and
contributions as a member and leader in Key Club.

I have contributed to my community by serving over 150 hours of service
as a member of Key Club, and as well as having service hours to be in the
top 10 in our club every month. I present my passion and dedication for
service wherever I go by bringing energy and happiness while serving. I’ve
proved having responsibility by chairing events and making sure that our
service records are updated for our members to view.
Although I was not able to attend many service events in the
summertime due to academic studies, I picked my feet back up when school
started and served most of my hours in the fall/winter. Through attending
many training conferences to further advance my leadership skills, I have
grown into a better leader that serves his home, school, and community in
the best possible way.

ATTENDANCE
Total Service Hours
During my term as Vice President, I took initiative in my
duties that related to my term and BEEyond those duties. My
official focus for the club I serve is Publicity, in which I was the
representative for school-club relations and ensured meetings
dates and times. I contacted other board members at times
to assist them at all times and plan events. I made frequent
reminders about events and meetings to members via text
and Facebook to encourage a higher attendance and
involvement in service events, DCMs, and more.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
10
SUMMARY OF POSITION
As one of the members who
witnessed the beginning of this
club that was recently chartered
two years ago, I have seen this
club grow from the bottom to strive
to be one of the top clubs in our
division. I am so proud of the rapid
growth within this club and am
honored to serve alongside an
amazing board!
Definitely becoming Vice President has furthered built my leadership
skills, motivated me to do service, and has benefited to the growth of the
club I serve. I became Vice President not for the title or popularity, but to
become a positive influence in my environment, serve my community,
and inspire others to take initiative and lead. All tasks that were
delegated to me were complete with 100% effort and took the initiative
to complete other tasks that had to be tended to. I assisted my President
in all of the school-related meetings, Kiwanis meetings, discussions with
school, and when getting approval from any advisers.
I worked rigorously alongside
my club board to properly function
as an active club, promote a higher
involvement of members, and
increase member attendance at
events. With my hard work, I assist
the club board so that we all
manage to be successful and keep
Ann Sobrato Key Club as one of the
top clubs in our division. I intend for
my term as Vice President to leave
a GOLDEN legacy for my successor
and other members in our club.
VICE PRESIDENT
SUMMARY OF POSITION
VICE PRESIDENT I worked ambitiously alongside my club board, especially with my
President. I was never waited on to complete tasks because I would finish
them as soon as possible. I would put 100% effort into all of my tasks and
delegated ones from my President. I created several meeting agendas,
attended Kiwanis meetings alone on behalf of our club, and ran several
board meetings.
I also assisted our secretary,
Gabby Baniqued, in imputing
service records for our members
so that she can have accurate
records for her Monthly Report
Forms. After service events that I
would chair, I would input the
hours as soon as possible for
updated service records. If
other officer or members
chaired events, then I would
make sure that they put in the
service hours so that the records
stay updated! I also submitted
articles about service events or
training conferences for our
bulletin editor, Vanessa Huynh,
to use in our monthly
newsletters.
Aside from assisting the president
with any tasks, I worked ambitiously
with other officers as well. I worked
closely with our other vice president,
Amy Tran, making meeting agendas,
and planning fundraisers and projects.
We hold each other accountable and
rely on each other for any records of
events and planned projects. We
discuss on possible fundraising ideas
for our club to lower costs of District
Convention attendees and raise
money for CNH preferred charities.
Being Vice President has
been the most challenging
responsibilities in my life;
however, I managed to strive to
serve my board members and
club.
Apart from the official work with running a proficient club, I also heavily
associated with member involvement and publicity. Members would feel
comfortable to approach me with any type of questions and/or concerns. I
strongly encouraged members to go to service events and division wide
events. I made sure that everyone was aware of the 10 hour requirement to
be an active member. I would send reminders and updates about
information on service to the members via mass text messaging and through
facebook groups.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
VICE PRESIDENT
My task achievements portray my dedication and ambition
towards this organization. As Vice President, I completed all of my
tasks, went beyond my regular duties, and took the initiative to
complete tasks that had to be attended to. Focusing greatly on
member involvement, building leadership, and creating a GOLDEN
legacy of members, I have furthered implemented several reforms
and organized the club efficiently.
` 15
TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
Providing Reminders/Updates Communication is KEY, and I took it upon myself to ensure that
members know what is going on in our club. Many members come up to us
board officers and ask us when events are, or when meetings are, but now
we use many forms of communication to answer their questions. In
conjunction with my president, I sent out and scheduled updates on the
Remind 101 texting system.
TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
Top: List of Remind101 text messages from website
Right: Received text by Sobrato Key Club member
SCHOOL PUBLICITY TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
Since our club is relatively new and
the organization is new to some in our
school, I took it upon myself to ensure that
we spread the word about Key Club to
our school. I work with our school
administration to ensure club meeting
dates and locations. I also work closely
with our Faculty Advisor to get our club
updates/reminders because to get any
announcements to be heard during
school over the daily morning
announcement broadcasts, clubs have
to have its advisors email the
administration.
Another great opportunity to publicize Key Club to our school is the
annual Club Day that our school has. This is a day dedicated for clubs to
recruit members in the beginning of the year, and for us, this is the more
efficient way to gain members. I collected sign ups and gave information
at our booth, as well as promote Key Club by walking around campus
carrying big signs and banners.
One of the duties that I felt I should
focus on was find and coordinate service
events. Our community is in a small
community that doesn’t get busy with
service throughout the year, so it is difficult
to find many service events locally. After
finding events, it was my duty to inform the
club members of that service event via
Facebook, in our club secret group. We
found that Facebook is the most efficient
method to delivering information on
service events and projects. Even though
Facebook isn’t the most professional
method of communication, it turned to be
the most effective.
FINDING SERVICE EVENTS
TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
I spend numerous hours
searching the web for service
events. I use govoluntr.org,
which is a great resource to
browse for local service
events. Some events that I
find are a bit far from our
community, but we still get a
good amount of sign ups and
attendees at most service
events. At service events, I
always promote proper
behavior and a positive
attitude towards service!
Some of our members did not
have a Facebook, so I provided
information to those members via
email and mass text messaging. Our
club website was also a resource
that has everything from
updates/reminders, service events,
contact information, and other
general information. I also contact
other clubs in the division to share
service events as well.
PIE AN OFFICER I’ve hosted several service
projects throughout the term, but
Pie an Officer was not only just a
project, but also a fundraiser! The
funds that our club made off of
this project went straight to Cali-
Nev-Ha preferred charities such
as PTP and Eliminate. I was in
charge of fully coordinating this
event from supplies to scheduling
to bidding and more. I checked
the bids online daily and
updated them for members to
view, for the most recent bidding
lists. This event was a great way
for members to come and bond
with members from other clubs in
our division as well as raise
money for charities!
TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
The message to students from this project was that recruitment doesn’t end
after Club Day, but it goes all year long. We had Recruitment Week after we got back from
Winter Break, so it was a great way for other students who missed Club Day sign ups, to
come and join our club! For each day, we were supposed to take pictures and sent them
to our Lieutenant Governor, Lindon Tran by a certain day. For each day, we took several
pictures and put them together neatly to send to him. On the weekend before
Recruitment Week, our officers and some members got together at our president’s house
to make posters and goodie bags. On the first day, many Key Clubbers brought big posters
into their classrooms to promote Key Club to other students and to tell them that they
could still join! I strongly encouraged members to wear any Key Club apparel and bring in
at least a friend to our meeting the next day to increase our membership and spread the
word about what we do in Key Club. By organizing all of these events, I inspired more
members to become involved and gave our club a good reputation.
Key Club Recruitment Week Key Club Recruitment Week (1/13 - 1/17) was a
project that our Lieutenant Governor, Lindon Tran
implemented in our division. I took the initiative to
coordinate this project so that we could recruit many more
members. This was the first time that this project was
executed, so I was determined to get the majority of our
members involved and promote Key Club to our school
more. I was even more motivated by our Lieutenant
Governor, Lindon Tran’s Recruitment Week Challenge - the
club that can coordinate the most members in each day
of Key Club Recruitment Week and send pictures to
document our activities.
Key Club Recruitment Week TASK ACHIEVEMENTS
We also promoted Key Club via
Facebook by making profile pictures about
our club so that our school friends can see it
and want to join. To further motivate
students to come to our meetings, we
made goodie bags that included candy, a
note with a compliment, information about
our meetings, and a raffle number. We
would have give these goodie bags to
students at our school on Friday, so that at
our next meeting, they would show up and
maybe win a raffle. To end our Key Club
Recruitment Week, on Saturday, we had a
park clean up and Charter Anniversary
picnic!
During the start of my term, I didn’t think that I would associate with the
Kiwanis club of Morgan Hill as much as I do now. They have always supported us
so much and we have helped them. I occasionally attend their meetings in
place of the President because I live in Morgan Hill and so it is more convenient
for me. I talked about service projects that the Kiwanis could assist us in, and
receive sponsorships from them for our projects. I’ve grown to become a more
professional leader by communicating with adults often through email and in
person. I always portrayed myself as a professional young man with a positive
Key Club attitude when communicating with Kiwanians.
KIWANIS RELATIONS

KIWANIS PIRATE COVE
KIWANIS RELATIONS
During the actual event,
I managed all of the
volunteers and made sure
everything was functioning
properly. When things
weren’t working, I would
tend to it and either fix it or
get help from a Kiwanian. I
made sure that all volunteers
were on task and giving their
all for service. I was
responsible for all volunteers
and had to plan
accordingly with each
station and shift.

KIWANIS PIRATE COVE
KIWANIS RELATIONS
To strengthen the bond
between Key Clubbers and
Kiwanians, I worked closely with
the Morgan Hill Kiwanis to
successfully coordinate the
Morgan Hill Kiwanis Pirate Cove.
I planned meetings with
Kiwanians from Morgan Hill
Kiwanis Club to prepare for the
event that required many hours
of work. I got the Ann Sobrato
Robotics Club to assist the
Kiwanis with the mechanical
and technical aspects.
I communicated
with the Kiwanian in
charge of the whole
event and I worked
closely with him via
email and in person to
discuss details and
plans for this event. I
provided him with
volunteers for the
event, both from Key
Club and Robotics
Club, and he provided
me with information
and details on
mechanical/technical
issues.
As Vice President of a Key Club, communication through email and
calling is crucial to maintaining the club and being organized. If I were to
contact my Kiwanis club, then I would meet in person at its weekly meetings,
but if unable to meet in person, I would send e-mails to them. Usually in our
club, I contact our members through a mass text messaging system called
Remind101, social media, and email. I frequently sent e-mails to our Kiwanis
club to receive information and service events, and deliver them to our
members! The majority of the service events we have come from volunteer
websites/organizations and of course, through e-mail. Through e-mails ,
phone calls, and other communication methods, I maintained a strong
connection with our Kiwanis, club, and division.
COMMUNICATION
24
Club Level I kept in touch effectively with board members for everything, especially during
the summer time when I became extremely busy because of academic reasons. Here
is a sample e-mail with my club president, Kyle Dimla:
COMMUNICATION
Kiwanis Level COMMUNICATION
Communication via e-mail is the main benefactor in keeping our club
updated with our Kiwanis club, and in receiving volunteer opportunities. I
maintained occasional e-mails with our Kiwanians to receive updates and
advisor availability:
COMMUNICATION
Division Level I was closely involved with Division updates through the 12 South
reflector and I checked it for updates regularly. I also submitted articles
and videos to Lindon via e-mail during Fall Rally time.
I also joined the CNH Vice President’s reflector and read many
responses that the District Executive Officers got from Vice Presidents all over
CNH. Many times, Vice Presidents would be asked questions that usually
revolved around self-reflections and duties throughout the term. This is a
sample reflection question and my response:

Apart from my regular daily, weekly, monthly, and annual duties, I took
initiative to do more than just what was required. As Vice President, I didn’t
want to just do what was required, but instead, go BEEyond those
expectations and strive to be the best Vice President I could be, Throughout
this term, I have grown to fulfill all of my responsibilities and surpass the
average in everything I do, whether it was key club related or not.
MISCELLANEOUS
Google Docs To assist the Secretary and
Treasurer, I organized a member
roster spreadsheet with my other
Vice President. Gathering
contact information of every
member, we sent in this report to
the Membership Update Center.
I carefully made sure that
everything was accurate and
that nothing was missing.
I took it upon myself to utilize Google Docs for any professional forms
and documents. Below are examples of forms and sign-up sheets that I
used to professionally organize events:
Division Spirit Coordinator
Around the time of Fall Rally
North (FRN), I wanted to take
initiative to assist the division in
every way possible for our division
to win the Spirit Stick. Upon being
spirit stick winners the past two
years; I wanted to uphold the 12
South legacy and go for a third
win. I applied for the position of
Division Spirit Coordinator and was
appointed! I work alongside the
other 3 Spirit Coordinators, as well
as the entire Division 12 South Spirit
Committee to make cheers,
organize the FRN prep days, and
lead the division on the actual day
of FRN.
MISCELLANEOUS
Although 12 South did not
win the Spirit Stick, I was
extremely proud of my division
and for getting into the Top 3.
This experience further honed
my leadership skills because I
had the opportunity of working
alongside a committee and had
several responsibilities/duties put
on me.
