THE PARISH AS ONE BODY “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I do not need you.’ Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary . Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. “ (1 Cor. 12:17-25)

Whenever the Pope speaks we Catholics get far more than our feet wet. Our associates and neighbors hold us accountable to our Holy Father’s words and deeds. As the Holy Father sets out in deep waters, we must do the same. While the water is refreshing, its depth is challenging. When the Pope Francis speaks, it’s not a matter of just swimming over the drain, thirteen feet below; the swimmer is pulled into the depth of the pool. Practice swimming!
Pope Francis instructs the Church regarding faith and family. The family is the first school for all children. Pope Francis speaks of his own “good fortune of growing up in a family where faith was lived in a simple and concrete manner.” As parents assure their children of trust and love, so do they encourage expressions of faith.
Every Catholic school and strong religious education program enrolls not only a student but the family, so it becomes a community of faith-filled disciples. While young Theodore, Noel, Ra-chel, and Priscilla are classmates, team-mates, and friends, so are their parents. Together fami-
lies matriculate through Catholic education. All school children are taught the important lessons of a syllabus – “I before E except after C” and the always important quadratic equation which I don’t know how to format (!) - the reli-gious lessons of Catholic school students direct their growth in conversion of mind, heart, and behavior toward Jesus. That last lesson should also be brought home to be discussed, learned, and practiced as a family. What is true of the Catholic parish grammar school must also be true of each of its programs for religious education. Faith must be nour-ished and lived in the family while conversion taught reinforced by religious education. The challenging goal for the entire parish is be a community of lived faith. More often than not, faith is formed first in the expressions of the family. Faith is reinforced by Catholic education programs. Get wet! As a family, encounter Christ, learn about Christ, and live Christ in simple but concrete ways. Swim in deep water; allow the parish in its religious education programs to direct your family to conversion. Dive from the high board and practice your faith joyfully! Yell loudly and make big splashes! Let the neighbors know how important our faith and its community, especially the family are to you.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED
July 18 / 19 Diocesan Cooperative Mission. This weekend we welcome Fr. John Lager, O.F.M Cap.
as our mission speaker for FOCUS. Warmly welcome Fr. John to St. Juliana Church when you see him this weekend.
FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) is a na-tional outreach founded in 1998 that invites college students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church, inspir-ing and equipping them for a lifetime of Christ-centered evange-lization, discipleship and friendships in which they lead others to do the same. During the 2015-2016 academic year, 479 mission-aries will serve full-time on 113 college campuses in 35 states. More than 17,000 FOCUS alumni are involved with parishes throughout the U.S. Within this number, 547 have made deci-sions to pursue Catholic religious vocations. To learn more, vis-it focus.org. Thank you for your generosity with this mission.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - NEWS
READINGS FOR THE WEEK
Start saving your pennies and other loose coins now for the Pennies From Heaven Collection which will take place on Aug. 22 & 23. Most parishes in the Orange Diocese have this fund raiser to help fund the 3 Life Centers, the 6 Birth Choice Obria health clin-ics and the homes for pregnant mothers in need in Orange County. They rely on this
collection for their annual operation costs. Encourage your children too, to save their change during the summer months to help these unborn babies live. The parish Respect Life Group will be handing out baby bottles after Masses on August 8 & 9, to take home and fill up with the coins. Then return the bottles on August 22 or 23. You can also insert paper money or checks in the bottles for this collection. We like the light weight kind of money, too.

us discover and understand this phenomenon and point us in the right direction to begin to meet this challenge.
Fr Heft holds a PhD in Histor-ical Theology, and is Professor of Religion and president of the Institute of Advanced Catholic Studies at the Uni-versity of Southern California.

A family from the Holy Land (Bethlehem) will be selling reli-gious, handcrafted items made from the olive wood this weekend of July 18 / 19. Proceeds from the sale of these items will go towards support of Catholic families in the Holy Land who expe-riencing political strife. Due to the violence and discrimination towards Christians in the Holy Land, most of the families left their country to different parts of the world. Christians are now less than 1.2 percent of the population. Please support these families by visiting the Holy Land Table outside all Masses this weekend of July 18 / 19..

PARISH 50TH YEAR DIRECTORY PERSONAL INFORMATION DISCLAIMER
Final photography is done for our 50th Anniversary Parish Family Directory as of the publishing of this bulletin. Thank you to all the families who were photographed for the directo-ry—it is a valuable community tool to be able to put names and faces together, when we are celebrating, praying and serving with each other. We now begin editing and assembling the final directory and plan to have it ready to publish this Fall. All families photographed will receive a directory. For those not photographed, it will be available for a small fee to purchase. The directory will include the names, addresses and phone numbers of ALL registered families of the parish. (Example: Smith, George and Sandra, address, phone number.) The information is not published or given to any other organiza-tion—it is ONLY published in our directory—which is for par-ish use and for parishioners of our church. If you do NOT want your name, address and phone number listed in this directory, please call the Parish Office. Only the names of those who specifically ask us to NOT publish their information will be with-held from the directory. Even if you have men-tioned this to a parish staff member, we still need you to call and verify that your do not want your information published. 714-879-1965.
Thank you!
Were you unable to get your picture taken, but would like a picture in the directory?
If your family just could not make it to any of the photography sessions and would really like to be in the directory, we want your picture!!! We can at this time accept a digital format of your family picture for our directory—please email it our par-ish email address at info@stjulianachurch.org. We need all photography submitted by July 31st.

STOP AND PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY
Did you know that during WWII there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every day at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, it’s people and peace. There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to participate, it s simple...here is how:
Every evening at 9:00pm Eastern Time 8:00pm Central,
7:00pm Mountain, 6:00pm Pacific,
stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States,
our troops, our citizens, and for return to a Godly nation. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.
A way for you to partner with serviceproviders who support your parish through
their sponsorship of the parish bulletin.
