What isthe CIPHE & what does it do?

What is the CIPHE and what does it do?The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering is the chartered professional body for the plumbing and heating engineering industry.

It operates as a not-for-pro�t educational charity with its principle aims being, to:

Educate the public, so that they understand the importance of plumbing and heating engineering and of employing members of the CIPHE

Educate those in industry to raise standards and enhance public health and safety

Promote the study of and research into the science, practice and principles of plumbing and heating engineering and allied subjects.

The CIPHE is the body that promotes individual professionalism in the �ght against rogue operatives.

It also uses its technical expertise and standing in the industry to in�uence Government policy on matters of concern to its members.

Gaining RecognitionIf you are working in the plumbing and heating industry and want to be seen as a professional, membership of the CIPHE will give you that recognition.

Belonging to a chartered body brings acknowledgement of individual commitment to quali�cations and professional development.

To make the public and industry aware of this dedication, members are granted designatory letters after their name and corporate members are allowed to use the CIPHE logo.

Eligible corporate members (Fellow, Member and Associate) can also be enrolled on the Register of Plumbers and/or the Register of Heating Professionals and hold the designatory letters RP and/or RHP.

Categories of membershipThere are various categories of membership depending on your quali�cations and experience.

Companion (CompCIPHE): Open to anyone who is connected with the plumbing and heating industry and supports the work of the CIPHE.

Trainee: For students training on an accredited plumbing or heating course under a recognised training provider.

A�liate: For those who have recently quali�ed at level 2 in a plumbing or heating discipline.

Associate (ACIPHE): Holds full NVQ Level 2 plus relevant post-quali�cation experience or City & Guilds Craft Certi�cate (three years minimum experience required including one year post-NVQ) OR no formal quali�cations but extensive practical experience supported by references.

Member (MCIPHE): A minimum of full NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Advanced Craft Certi�cate with appropriate practical experience (�ve years minimum experience required) or City & Guilds Craft Certi�cate plus extensive practical experience and su�cient professional development (i.e. Water Regulations/ Oftec/ manufacturer’s training courses) is required.

Fellow (FCIPHE): The highest category of individual membership. Applicants will hold a HNC/HND/Degree in relevant engineering discipline and be employed in a senior managerial position (i.e. consultant, manager).

We have a wide variety of members from practitioners, consultants, speci�ers, designers, public health engineers, lecturers, trainers and trainees.
