CIVTA Meeting Notes Jan 26th
, 2011
Meeting called to order by Jeannie Stall at 7:00 pm
10 members were present
Also present: Amanda Penning with Bayer
Happy New Year!
Old business:
Lori gave us an update on the news letter editor position. Derek has not followed through
and taken over the duties. Lori will still write the news letter if others will help prepare
them for mailing. It was decided that we will try a quarterly newsletter this year. Lori
will bring the letters to the meetings and members will help to prepare them for the post
office.
Jeannie discussed the evaluations from the fall conference 2010. Suggested topics for
future conferences include: radiology, nursing skills, emergencies among others.
New business:
DeeDee has been planning the 2011 fall conference already. She has booked Amy
Breton CVT, VTS(ECC) from Massachusetts. The conference is scheduled for October
15, 2011 at the ARL. Possible conference topics were passed around and voted on. The
topics for this year’s conference will be:
1. Monitoring the IV fluid patient.
2. The cat and the kidney
3. Abdominal radiology reviews: seeing the hidden stuff
4. Thoracic radiology reviews: seeing the hidden stuff
5. Bad vein…How to gain venous access on “naughty” veins and what to use.
DeeDee would like to start planning the 2012 fall conference-all members agreed that it
would be a good idea.
All meetings have been booked with speakers and topics for this year.
3/30 Michelle Beaty from MWI “Controlled Substances & Inventory Control”
4/27 Dr. June Olds from the Blank Park Zoo “Zoo Medicine”
5/25 Dr. Alexandra Tracey from ISU “Equine Surgery”
6/29 Abby Roth from DVM Pharmaceuticals “Topical Therapy and Otics”
7/27 Dr. Linn Seibert from Lilly “Behavior Issues”
8/31 Ryan Ong and John Cary from Boehringer Ingelheim “CHF”
9/28 Dr. Jennifer Schleining from ISU “Cloning Calves”
It was decided that flyers for our monthly meetings will be placed in MWV boxes again
to help remind people of our meetings.
Dues are due. $25 if paid by March 31, 2011 and $35 after.
The monthly meal provider sign up sheet was sent around. The first few months already
have volunteers. If you volunteer to bring a meal please save your receipts; you can be
reimbursed for your expenses. The usual dollar amount for the meal is $50-$60.
The possibility of having a group fun activity was discussed. It was brought up that these
have failed in the past due to a lack of planning in advance. Possible options for an
outing for this year were discussed and include: bowling, mini-golf, movie and dinner, or
all play gaming center. It was decided that April 2nd
the group will go to the bowling
alley at Bass Pro Shop and dinner. Dues paid members may bring one guest for free and
they can pay for others to attend if more want to come.
It was decided that the association will purchase door prizes for our monthly meetings
once again. Jen will get some gift certificates.
Jen discussed the changes to the CIVTA web site. The option of a member’s only section
was discussed. Further discussion will follow next month.
Amanda asked if we were interested in starting up the tech of the year award again.
DeeDee will work with Amanda on this project.
The next meeting will be held February 23rd
at 7:00 pm at the FFA Enrichment Center
room 160 on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. Laura McAdams from Miltex will be

walking etc.) in their home. These ideas will be discussed further at future meetings.
DeeDee asked if it was ok with the group to pursue an “international” speaker from
Guelph Ontario for the 2012 fall conference. The group agreed that if the speaker is good
the extra cost for airline tickets would be worth it.

CIVTA Meeting Notes Sept 28, 2011______ Meeting called to order by Jeannie Stall at 7:01 p.m. 11 members were in attendance Also present: Dr. Brian VanderLey from ISU MEET & GREET: Those present introduced themselves & told about the best Halloween costume they ever had. OLD BUSINESS: Jeannie tried to contact Lori Martindale but was unsuccessful to get an update on the CIVTA survey. She will continue to try to get an update. Linda has had some personal things come up so she and others will delay putting together snack baskets and delivering them to local vet clinics to get the word out about our Association until late December or just after the New Year. DeeDee will send information to Jen about where and when to send the scholarship info to. Jen reported that South Ankeny mini Storage does not have a smaller unit than we currently rent. She is currently getting quotes for smaller spaces at different facilities. We are paid at SAMS through the end of the year. It is unknown if SAMS would give us a refund or not. Jeannie reported that Bayer Animal Health and Amanda Penning are still interested in giving a $300 donation to the CIVTA this year. The details of the donation are still in the works. In addition, Bayer will also be donating goodie bags for the Fall Conference. Currently we have 22 people signed up for the Fall Conference. The early registration deadline is not until Monday October 3rd. DeeDee is looking for volunteers to come to the conference early to help set up; Jeannie, Amy volunteered. Jen has to work that morning but will come after work. Jen and DeeDee will purchase the pop and snacks for the conference. NEW BUSINESS: Jeannie has placed job openings and CE opportunities on the front table for members to look at after the meeting. Last month nominations were taking for the outgoing board of directors positions for the CIVTA. Nominations: President-Tiffany Butler, Secretary-Sara Tassler, Historian-Mary Cooper. Elections were held and all three were elected into office. Linda Blazek-Garvin was thanked for providing a wonderful meal (for the second time this year) for tonight’s meeting. Jeannie had “warned” everyone that our speaker for tonight Dr. Jennifer Schleining was pregnant and not due until November but there is a backup speaker ready to go if she “goes”
early ;) Dr. Brian VanderLey from ISU filled in for Dr. Schleining tonight. He discussed cloning. It was a very interesting presentation. Door prize drawing Meeting adjourned 8:50 pm
