The class information evenings are scheduled for tomorrow evening - please

individual students at this time. (See page 3).

Reminders
This is a ‘hat term’. Please ensure your child has their named school hat
at school every day.
For the sake of safety we ask that you inform us ahead of time if your child is
not going to be at school. Please use either the designated telephone number
(410 9551) or the absence option on the tiqbiz school app.
Haven’t downloaded the app yet? Please see below how to do this. The app
is an important communication tool that we will continue to use this year.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHANGE YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM IF YOU
HAVE ALREADY DOWNLOADED THE APP.
School Shoes: Uniform Checks
Checks on adherence to the school uniform will start from the week 22

We ask that the school uniform requirements are respected. Please ensure your

If there is a problem meeting this requirement, please contact

home.
Sessions will be running during the class information evening. Please
come and join us in the library/learning hub for a 20 minute session.
6:00pm, 6:30pm or 7:00pm.
Before School
All children need to stay around the yellow bike shed area if they arrive at
school before 8:30am. No children are permitted to play on any playground
before school. Before 8:30am the school is not able to take responsibility for the
safety of children.
When the bell goes at 8:30am, the children can then go to their classrooms and
put their bags away. Please make sure that your children are aware of the
regulations before 8:30am.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Visiting the School
To ensure the safety of all our
students it is very important that
we know who is on the school site
at all times. Of course,
immediately before and after
school we have many parents
and caregivers visiting the school
and this is expected. We also
have occasions when
parents/caregivers are invited to
attend an event, such as cross
country. However, outside of
these ‘drop off’ and ‘pick up’ times
and ‘special occasion times’
times’ it is very important that all
parents/caregivers who come to
the school ‘sign in’ at the office
before going anywhere else on
the school site. The signing in
involves wearing a visitor tag on a
lanyard. This then helps the
teachers to ascertain the visitor
has recorded their presence at
the office. This does not apply to
parents/caregivers who are
helping in the class alongside the
teacher.
As a school we welcome
parent/caregiver involvement and
this, clearly, means we will have
numerous visitors to the school at
any given time. With your help we
will always know who is on the
school site. This is also useful
should an emergency evacuation
be needed as we must know how
many people need to be
accounted for. Thank you for your
understanding and co-operation.
Smoke Free
In accordance with the Smoke
Free Environments Act, the
school is required to be 100%
smoke free both indoors and
outdoors. Please do not smoke
on the school property (including
in the grounds).

Electronic Registers at CBS
CBS uses an electronic roll that has approval from the Ministry of Education. The roll will be taken twice daily: 8:55am and
1:25pm. It is important, therefore, for you to ensure that your child is at school promptly by 8:55am. Many important
notices are also shared at this time. Attendance codes are recorded for any lateness or absences.
Please advise the office of any absences or lateness by phoning 410 9551, emailing:
safetycheck@campbellsbay.school.nz or using the absence button on the mobile phone app. These messages are
checked every morning from 9:00am.
Please do not email the classroom teachers as often these messages are not passed on to the school office and you will
receive an unnecessary phone call or text!
Please also send a note to the classroom teacher, as this is a legal requirement for schools to obtain.
Mornings in the Bus Bay: Re Reminder
We ask that the following is adhered to when using the bus bay:
Only children are to get out of vehicles. This means these children must be capable of getting out of the
vehicle without assistance from an adult. These children must be able to put on their own coats and
bags and whatever else they may have with them that needs to come to school.
When using the vehicle lane closest to the school, children should get out of the vehicle on the bus bay footpath side.
When using the vehicle lane closest to the road, children should get out of the vehicle on the grass side. These children
should then wait on the grass until they deem it safe to use the Aberdeen Road footpath or wait until they are taken
across the bus bay by the principal (if he is present).
In other words, the bus bay ‘stop, drop and go’ is to be used only by children who are independent enough to be able to
follow these requirements. While the Travelwise programme encourages parents to consider not using their vehicles to
bring children to and from school, if this is not an option for your family and if you have children who would not be able to
meet the requirements as outlined, you are asked to drop your child at a safe location so they can then walk the balance
of the distance to school. This would allow plenty of time for farewells, last minute instructions and the putting on of coats
and bags but not in the bus bay.
Please help us make the bus bay a ‘stop, drop and go’ option for children to get to school. Thank you.
School Fees and Donation
Just a reminder if you are yet to pay for your school fees and donation.
Payment is due this week for Mathletics, reading Eggs and Aquatics programmes. Your child will miss out on being
signed up for these programmes if payment is not received.
To pay these items please go to our online payment portal which can be found on the front page of our school website.
Police Vetting: Urgent & Important!
Only adults who have had a police vet will be able to help with school activities from January 2017 onwards.
As obtaining a police vet takes time, if you are considering being available to help with school activities in any way in
2017 please act now, as follows......
Please go to the school website to ‘Police Vetting for Volunteers at CBS’ under Parent Information and complete the
form and attach photocopies as per the instructions.
Please note a police vet remains current for three years after the date of issue by the police.

Student Success
At the end of 2016 Georgia Fraser-Mackenzie and Hanneke Hectors were deeply focused on their inquiry around change.
Out of choosing fitness levels and littering/respect topics we chose a different topic. It was about kids with learning
challenges. Georgia and Hanneke then decided to have a bake sale and go around their neighbourhood selling christmas
cards as it was just before Christmas and from that we raised over 300 dollars. In 2017 we decided to use the money
raised to support kids with learning challenges here at
Campbells Bay School!! We decided to buy a slope board for
Jada to use in the junior school, we gave four slope boards to
Jada’s class so that other kids get to use them too! Slope
boards are to support posture, writing and reading in the
classroom. Miss Aitken says “Wow, what a great example of
Not Self But Service”.
Here’s a picture of the girls giving Jada and her classmates the
slope boards.
