Accessing the Map:

You will need to log in to a Google Account, in order to be able to edit the map. You can create a Google Account

by clicking here

3 Click on the arrows to move around the map.

Click the + or – scale to zoom in/out on different areas

The map zooms in to show incredible detail, with many sites already mapped on

Zooming in and out:

Each placemark shows a site identified as a good example of one of the South Down’s National Park’s special qualities. Each is colour coded to show the quality to which it relates.

This, for example, is Stanmer Park, marked green for “Tranquil and Unspoilt Places”

4 To see the site to which a placemark refers, click on it

5 If you want to add descriptive text, you can type it in to the white box.

If you would like to add a photo, click on this icon at the far right

Adding to Placemarks:

When you click the ‘photo’ icon, this box should appear:

You can copy and paste a link from the forum photos page or from anywhere else on the internet.

Adding a Photo:

NB: If the photo you want to upload is a file saved to your computer, then you wont be able to upload it directly.

The best approach is to upload it to the South Downs National Park Online Forum – by clicking here and following the

instructions.

Then you will be able to paste the link from your new photo on the online forum into the GoogleMaps box above.

Adding a New Placemark:If you want to mark on the map a new, important site, you can add your own placemark.

First, click the blue placemark button at the top of the map.

This will turn your mouse cursor into a little blue placemark which you can drop at your chosen location.

7

8When you have dropped it, the white box will appear asking for the name of the site, and any further description you want to add.

In order to change the colour of the placemark from blue, to fit with colour coding by each special quality (see Key), click the blue placemark in the top right hand corner of the white box.

Finish by clicking “OK”.

Saving your changes:9 In order to save the

changes you have made, you must click Done before you quit the page.

Tips:

• If you make a mistake, and move, add or delete something unintentionally, it is very easy to repair.

• After every change this little yellow box will appear at the top of the screen – if you want to undo your action, just click Undo.

• If you make a change that you can’t fix, then email us on ztyndall@britainthinks.com and we can help solve the problem.
