Welcome to THE COACH APPROACH®, an exercise support process designed to teach new and returning exercisers how to start and stick with their exercise programs. At no additional charge, you will be paired with a YMCA personal wellness coach who will help you work through your exercise-related challenges.
Teaching you how to start and stick with exercise will:• Reducefatigueandsleepirregularities• Increaseenergylevels• Improvemoods• Preventdisease• Enhanceoverallfeelingsofwell-being
Metro Atlanta YMCA
THE COACH APPROACH® will use a series of one-on-one meetings with you and your personal wellness coach. One size does not fit all when it comes to trying an exercise plan. For this reason, the YMCA offers a brief but highly accurate survey of what works specifically for you. This survey helps you design a plan that fits with your work/life balance. Using this and other tools, your wellness coach will then help you develop short-term goals, show you how exercise affects your moods and energy levels and teach you the importance of self-management skills and how to use them.
With the help of your personal wellness coach, you will learn how to:• Kicktheinactivityhabit• Buildyoursuccessasanexerciser• Seetheconnectionbetweenexerciseandfeelingbetter• Shapeyourworkoutsaroundactivitiesyouenjoy• Stayontrackevenwhenyourschedulethrowsyouacurveball
“I think that’s the number one thing: I have more energy. I feel like exercising. I feel like walking.”

Whatever the reasons your life seems to be squeezing the life out of you, THE COACH APPROACH® will be a welcome change of pace. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 15-20 percent of exercisers typically stay with a plan long enough to reap any health benefits. It’s not that people don’t want to give exercise a chance — it’s just that the ability to stick with exercise is less likely than the ability to repeatedly start and stop.

“The setting of short- and long-term goals has been very important to my progress. Because I had so much weight to lose,
I actually focused on extremely short-term goals.”
