CHALLENGING GENDER NORMS & STEREOTYPES
10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. | KU 222
Gender norms are at the root of many issues facing women and men in society.
They are implicit or explicit rules, expectations, and standards placed on women
and men regarding how they should behave and be treated by society. They
can even impact how we choose our college major and can ultimately affect
our career trajectory. In this workshop, we will build awareness about gender
norms and why they matter, explore how gendered stereotypes affect education
and career prospects, and develop skills and strategies to better advocate for
ourselves and others.

SALARY NEGOTIATION WORKSHOP
2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. | 120 Adele
Most of us have heard about the gender pay gap- the difference between what
an average woman working full-time is paid compared to the average man.
Research indicates that the gender pay gap develops very early in women’s
careers; just one year out of college, women are paid 18% less than men doing
the same work. According to the 2017-2018 Flyer First Survey data, there was
nearly a $7,500 difference in what UD women and men reported earning just one
year after graduation. While the pay gap results from many factors — including
discrimination — gender differences in salary negotiation play a role.
In this workshop, students will learn to identify and articulate their personal value,
conduct objective market research to benchmark a target salary and benefits, and
develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and other strategies to successfully
negotiate for fair pay. Learning to confidently negotiate can help ensure everyone
can earn the pay and benefits they deserve in their first job after graduation, and
for the rest of their careers.

The “Table of Plenty” is a monthly opportunity for open lunchtime discussion on
a complex social justice topic. We hope to have people with a broad spectrum
of opinions join us for respectful conversation where all sides are heard. They are
held on the third Tuesday of each month from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in Liberty Hall RM
08. Lunch made and provided by CSC staff! Please RSVP at https://www.udayton.
edu/ministry/csc/advocacy/table_of_plenty.php, so that we know how much food
to prepare. Topics will be chosen about two weeks prior to each lunch, so that
they are more focused on social justice issues that are in the news. So, check the
website within two weeks of each date for the topic.
