COMPETITIVE DRILL
• Prerequisites for Course Attendance– Must be enrolled in any AFJROTC Course– Able to attend class (0625 every school day)– Able to attend (participate) at drill meets– Comply with Random Drug Test Policy– http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDkIVAQgAgE
COMPETITIVE DRILL
– Benefits• First year cadets on drill start as c/A1C (E-3)• 1 year of drill fulfills the PE credit requirement for
graduation
COMPETITIVE DRILL
• What Competitive Drill is NOT– An optional class that can be missed to go to
another class– An extra curricular activity – Play time
COMPETITIVE DRILL
• Standard Practices– Arrive for class at 0600 hrs Not 0601– Arrive for drill meets 1 hour before departure– Arrive for practices NLT 10 minutes before the start
time– Obtain all equipment upon entry into the classroom– No food or drink in classroom or on drill pad
• This includes gum, breakfast, and “Starbucks”• You may drink water in the classroom anytime• You may only drink water during breaks while on the drill pad
COMPETITIVE DRILL
• Standard Practices. . .continued– Attendance is mandatory for all drill functions
(meets, practices, etc)– This class (except for seniors) is responsible for
reveille and retreat (putting up and taking down the flag)
• Flag detail conducts reveille prior to class if the sun is up
– Compliance with the cadet handbook is required

• Appearance– No civilian hats – No open toe shoes– Hair must be pinned back (females)– During cold weather, watch caps and gloves are
authorized
COMPETITIVE DRILL
• Miscellaneous– Practice like you will perform– No spectators at the Drill Pad– Be prepared to answer questions– Don’t sit on/around/near the drill pad– Don’t walk/run through or jump over the rock

• Equipment– Account for it at all times – Don’t wait to be told to get it– Bring writing utensil and paper to class– No joking, jesting, or unsanctioned competitions
with any of the equipment

• What We Do– 10+ person armed drill
• Inspection, Regulation, and Exhibition• We use the Daisy Replica, M1903A3 Drill Rifle
– 10+ person unarmed drill• Inspection, Regulation, and Exhibition
– Color Guard• Not the flag team on band, performs inspection and regulation
drill
– 4 person armed/unarmed• Exhibition Only
COMPETITIVE DRILL
• Where We Go– Approximately 10 Drill meets a year, one of
which is out of state– Special functions as requested by the community– Performances at school functions
• Half time at football/basketball games• Assemblies
COMPETITIVE DRILL
• Homework and Assignments– Due on the date requested– Assignments and Homework carry the same
weight• Assignments are tasks other than the
workbook/knowledge book and include but are not limited to:
– Turning in paperwork – Turning in equipment– Any task assigned by the drill team coordinator
