Sign Ordinance established in 2001 to: Reduce visual clutter in community and Allow businesses to implement advertising on premise

Clarified and streamlined the temporary sign permit process in 2011 Help businesses make advertising choices that are cost

effective

Implementing revised process April 1, 2011

What Stays the Same?

Permanent sign permit process Temporary sign prohibitions already on

the books Product signs on/near products are not

considered temporary signs

So What’s Changed?

City now administers sign compliance (previously Planning & Zoning staff)

$73 fee for temporary sign reduced to $25 Permit issued per sign, not per event or

occasion Established a procedural protocol

So What’s Changed?

Our Focus: Temporary Signs Emphasis for enforcement:

Off premise signs Signs on Right-of-Way Temporary signs without permits

Temporary signs attached to buildings are “covered” under a business’ permanent sign permit and do not require additional permit Within square footage guidelines

How Do I Comply?

Get a Temporary Sign Permit Permits desk: 1017 College Street, City Hall

Annex Temporary sign fee: $25

Issued per individual sign

How Do I Comply? Get a Temporary Sign Permit

Initial Inspection By Sign Inspector To verify proper placement (minimum 20 feet from

pavement/street) To issue/affix approved seal

How Do I Comply?

Get a Temporary Sign Permit Expiration / Removal Inspection Can renew at 30 day intervals, up to 120 day

maximum. Renewal: $25

If You have a Permit for One of These…

Permanent Signs

Then You Don’t Need Another Permit

To add temporary signs to your building Stay within 10% (or lesser*) coverage

A Note about Sign Coverage on the Building Allowable percentages are determined

by zoning, so check your property’s zoning and refer to the chart
