Daniella Revers – California Camp Fire On November 8th 2018, one of the deadliest fires in California’s history broke out in Butte County, displacing thousands of animals. The fire destroyed over 153,000 acres, and I was fortunate enough to be able to volunteer my time working in the livestock barn at the Butte County Fairgrounds through NCAEP’s emergency response team. I was able to be part of the large animal team performing exams, triaging and treating a wide variety of animals. Being able to be involved in this operation has given me a new appreciation for relief veterinarians and the volunteers who were able to assist them. Animals were constantly being brought in by volunteers while others were reunited with their families and able to leave. It was a profound experience. I would volunteer again during another emergency or disaster.
LMU-CVM Admissions Interviews
Another way to be involved with developing
our next generation of veterinarians is by
taking part in our CVM applicant interviews
for the Class of 2024. Interviews are
scheduled in the afternoon of several days
November through January. If you would be
interested in participating or learning more,

LMU-CVM in the Community
Emily LeBeau – World Equestrian Games As a fourth-year veterinary student in the LMU-CVM class of 2019, I was awarded the
opportunity to participate in a 2-week externship at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North
Carolina in September 2018. In my pursuit of a career in equine sports medicine, I was overjoyed to be
announced as the student representative for LMU-CVM.
As an extern, I was responsible for performing physical exams and hospital treatments which
varied across disciplines. I was involved in treating metabolic disturbances in endurance, eventing and
marathon driving horses including hematology and chemistry interpretation, IV catheter placement and
creating and administering rehydration plans. I assisted with lameness workups utilizing diagnostic
analgesia, imaging and podiatry. I was able to practice key imaging techniques alongside a boarded
radiologist and participated in physiotherapy methods including chiropractic, acupuncture, massage,
cold laser therapy, kinesiology taping, and thermal imaging. I was also a part of the USDA inspection of
foreign and U.S. horses including screening for banned substances, quarantine of foreign horses and
strict management of horses positive for foreign animal diseases such as contagious equine metritis and
piroplasmosis.
While the days were long and the stress was high, it was thrilling to work with such incredible
horses and veterinarians. The wealth of knowledge packed into those two weeks along with the
incredible connections made this a key experience to my clinical year.
Community service is a key part of the
LMU-CVM mission. Students and
faculty work with various
organizations and low-cost programs
in several states in the area.

LMU-CVM Accredited by the AVMA COE In January of this year, the AVMA COE (Council on Education) granted our Accreditation. This was an exciting
day for everyone involved in our college. We appreciate our clinical sites who participated in the March 2018 site
visit. In brief, AVMA COE accreditation of veterinary medical programs and institutions assures the following:
prospective students that they will meet a competency threshold for entry into
practice, including eligibility for professional credentialing and/or licensure;
employers that graduates have achieved specified learning goals and are prepared
to begin professional practice;
faculty, deans and administrators that their programs measure satisfactorily
against national standards and their own stated missions and goals;
the public that public health and safety concerns are being addressed; and
the veterinary profession that the science and art of veterinary medicine are being
advanced through contemporary curricula.

Office of Clinical Relations Welcomes New Team Members!
Dr. Tina (Christina) Dougherty, VMD, graduated from the University of
Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and has had a varied career. She has
practiced in mixed animal, small animal, and exotic animal hospitals in
Pennsylvania and New Jersey, completed a small animal surgery and internal
medicine fellowship in Hungary, and spent time on the regulatory and
pharmacovigilance end of the pharmaceutical industry with Pfizer Animal
Health/Zoetis.
Tina joined the faculty at Lincoln Memorial University’s College of
Veterinary Medicine as a Clinical Relations Lead Veterinarian and Assistant
Professor in February of this year. Her passion is teaching veterinary
communications skills.
“Dr. D” has been involved in various roles within organized veterinary for a
decade, and just “retired” from the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association’s
Executive Committee, as Immediate Past President, in August. Tina still stays involved in the concerns of the
profession, currently serving as the alternate delegate for Pennsylvania to the AVMA. Tina lives with her husband
and 3 four-legged children outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while her 3 two-legged children are either in
college or working in Pennsylvania, New York, and North Carolina.
Dr. Kristin McCann, DVM, is joining our team as our Area Liaison in Western
New York. As an area liaison, she will be visiting with our Clinical Affiliate Hospitals
in that area and clinical year LMU-CVM students there on rotation.
After graduating from St George’s University in 2009, Dr. McCann started her
own mixed-animal mobile practice in 2010 in New Jersey. She then expanded her
mobile practice into Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York. The flexibility of this
type of practice allowed Dr. McCann to practice with many different species of
animals, various clients, types of procedures as well as locations. She was also able
to spend time providing preventative care in areas of need. In 2016, Dr. McCann
moved to Buffalo, New York, but still practices in all four states.
Dr. McCann shares her life with her five personal dogs, Pia, Bullet, Hardy,
Rosalie and Barnacle - adopted from the local SPCA or other rescue groups. She is
looking forward to working with our students and furthering LMU-CVM’s mission
and goals to educate confident and competent veterinarians.
Clinical Year Student Housing
We are always looking for safe and affordable
housing options for our students while they are on
their rotations. If you know of any student housing
options in your area please contact Laurie Roberson.
