DESCRIPTION

This is a presentation I gave to the heads of schools at the Quebec Association of Independent Schools in April of 2012. My thinking has evolved since then and you can read about it at http://www.yourlearningcurve.com/2013/07/networks-power-with-vs-power-over.html. Basically, I am advocating using the power structure of networks over that of a hierarchy to spearhead change in school culture. Power with is more effective than power over for authentic change.

FIVE RULES OF NETWORKS

1. We shape networks by the ties we make.

2. Our networks shape us.

3. Our friends affect us.

4. Our friends' friends' friend affects us.

5. The network has a life of its own.
