Connecting NFS Ancestors Who Died in Utah

to Records of their Deaths

OBJECTIVES

• IDENTIFY ON NEW FAMILYSEARCH ANCESTORS WHO DIED IN UTAH

• LEARN HOW TO FIND RECORDS OF THEIR DEATHS ONLINE

• EXPLORE WHAT THE RECORDS TELL ABOUT THOSE ANCESTORS

In this lesson you are going to learn to find and use two records of death on

two different websites:

• DEATH CERTIFICATES– http://www.archives.state.ut.us/research/indexes/20842.htm

• NEWSPAPER OBITUARIES– http://digitalnewspapers.org/

In Family Pedigree with Details on NFS you can highlight each direct line ancestor on

the pedigree chart to find those who died in Utah.

To find death records for deaths between 1904 and 1958 go to:

http://www.archives.state.ut.us/research/indexes/20842.htm

1. Type in the name of the person, surname Remember to search for married women under their married name.

Compare data with NFS

Now in Family Pedigree on NFS you can check to find another direct line ancestor

who died in Utah.

Josephine Fielding Heath died in Utah in 1928

Here is the death

Remember that we

search for death

records of married women

under their married

surnames.

Now search at http://www.archives.state.ut.us/research/indexes/20842.htmfor Josephine Fielding Heath.

When you check in Family Pedigree on NFS you find mother Mary Ann died in Utah before 1904, so there

will not be a death certificate for her.
