Birmingham Public Schools 2015 Bond Program Monthly Construction Update 

May 2018  

Brief Project Description 

Bid Pack 6 is wrapping up this year with work at Seaholm and Beverly Elementary. The work at Seaholm 

will  include a scene shop addition;  renovations  to  the auditorium  including new sound systems, stage 

flooring and lighting; and upgrades to STEM labs and media center to create a more collaborative learning 

environment. At Beverly Elementary epoxy flooring will be installed in the restrooms. Bid Pack 11 will also 

take place this summer and includes the replacement of roof top units at West Maple Elementary. This 

project will begin when school is released for summer. The auditorium and addition are scheduled to be 

completed in October, and all other work will be completed before the 2018/2019 school year. 

Construction Schedule Update 

Seaholm High School: 

Masonry block walls for the addition are completed and vapor barrier installed.  

Brick for the addition has begun. 

Precast plank for the roof has been set and grouted. 

Roof blocking is completed, roofing has started. 

Underground plumbing and electrical in the addition is ongoing.  

Roof drains have been installed.  

Installation of the rigging above the stage has started.  

Fire protection and duct work above the stage is completed.  

Starter Boxes and Master Control Cabinet on the stage have been installed.  

Dimming & controls wiring is 75% complete and sound system conduit is complete.  

Auditorium house lighting is 60% complete.  

Caliper masonry has been completed. The metal decking was installed and the concrete on the 

calipers has been completed.  

Demolition of the old boilers in our new dressing room area has been completed, the walls have 

been removed and saw cutting of the floor has been completed.  

Roof openings and curbs for the Energy Recovery Unit have been completed 

Beverly Elementary: 

Work will begin when school is dismissed for summer break. 

West Maple Elementary: 

Work will begin when school is dismissed for summer break. 

Safety 

All contractors will go through Clark Construction Company’s site‐specific safety orientation 

before beginning work on site.   

Hard hats, safety glasses and safety vests will be required 100% of the time on site.  

Clark’s BRAVO program (Being Resistant Against Violations Openly) is being utilized on this 

project.  This program is to ensure everyone has their eyes open to potential safety hazards and 

is looking out for one another. 

Clark has set this project up with a MIOSHA SET Alliance.  

Contractors are going through stretch and flex in the morning to get them warmed up for the 

tasks they will perform that day.

To date, for Bid Pack No. 6 there have been 20 bulletins and 7 ASI’s issued by TMP. 

To date, for Bid Pack No. 11 there has been 1 ASI issued by TMP.  

To date, 246 RFIs have been issued for Bid Pack No. 6, and 1 RFI for Bid Pack No. 11.
