1. APPLICATION
Note that the IEC60898 products are not for use in the sub-Saharan Africa market.
The QA and QF range of miniature circuit breakers are for use against overloads and short circuits in residential andcommercial electrical installations.
The standard products are for use in 240V AC systems or 125V DC systems. The QA and QF earth leakage units arefor protection against fire and shock hazards in residential and commercial installations, and have a number of newfeatures.
The Q range is complemented by a number of auxiliary products for energy management, switching of loads, andprotection against surges.
2. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
2.1. Time Delay OperationAt an overcurrent flow, the magnetic force produced bythe coil overcomes the core spring, the core closes to thepole piece, attracts the armature, and actuates the tripbar. The delay is obtained by the viscosity of the oil.
2.2. Instantaneous OperationIf the overcurrent is excessive, the armature is instantlyattracted, without the influence of the moving core.
MAGNETIC-MAGNETIC CIRCUIT BREAKER
3. CONSTRUCTION
3.1. Operating Handle -ON / TRIP / OFF operation. Resetting after tripping isperformed by returning the handle to the “OFF” position andthen “ON” again.
Trip Free Operation - Even if the handle is held in the “ON”position, the breaker will trip if an overcurrent flows.
Positive “ON” and Positive “OFF” mechanism - Shouldthe contacts weld in the closed position due to an abnormalcondition, the tripping mechanism will trip but the handle willremain in the “ON” position indicating that the circuit is stillclosed. Under these conditions, the handle cannot bemoved to the “OFF” position.
3.2. Arc Extinguishing Device - Comprises a set ofspecially shaped steel grids isolated from each other. Amagnetic field is induced in the grids by the current flow anddraws the arc into the grids so that it is lengthened, cooledand split into a series of smaller arcs which are more easilyextinguished.

4.2 Earth Leakage Units
• 3 Year warranty.• Current ratings up to 63A.• Guaranteed operation for voltages down to 50V AC.• Immune to pulsating DC.• Detects and trips if the neutral is not present.• Detects and trips if the neutral potential rises above 50V over earth potential.• Detects and trips if line and neutral are reversed.• Detects and trips if the line to neutral voltage exceeds a predetermined value (special types only).• Detects if the earth potential is not present.• Short time delay to avoid nuisance tripping.• One device covers all nominal voltages from 100 - 240V AC.• Operates normally even if reverse fed.• Insulation resistance testing can be done with the handle in either the ON or OFF position. When the
handle is in the ON position, the functional earth wire should be disconnected. The test voltage appliedwith the megger must not exceed 500V.
• Indication for ON - OFF - overload trip - earth leakage trip.• Although a functional earth connection is used, there is no current flow to earth during normal operation.• Current limiting on overload type.
4. FEATURES
4.1. Circuit breakers and switch disconnectors
• Handle trips to mid position, on circuit breaker and earth leakage units to indicate that the unit has trippedfor an electrical fault and has not been switched off manually.
• Convenient rail mounting for mini-rail, USA rail, DIN rail and surface mounting.• Circuit breakers can carry 100% of rated current and always trip within pre-determined percentage of rated current irrespective of ambient temperature conditions.• The operation is not dependent on thermal action to activate the tripping mechanism, therefore the
predetermined trip current is not changed by a variation in temperature. The tripping characteristic ismainly determined by the number of turns of the solenoid coil.
• No thermal de-rating of current necessary up to a maximum of 60°C ambient.• Non-standard current ratings are available - even fractions of ampere rating.• A wide variety of tripping characteristics are available to suit particular needs and giving reliable protection.• No nuisance tripping caused by high ambient temperatures.• Immediate reset after fault has been cleared.• No ageing or deterioration of sensing mechanism which is hermetically sealed.• 10 Year warranty.• Current ratings up to 63A.• Compact size, 13mm, 18mm and 19,5mm module widths.• Single phase loading does not affect the tripping characteristic of a multipole circuit breaker.• Circuit breakers have been tested and conform to the requirements to be used as disconnectors.• Magnetic-magnetic principle, with internal and external linkage to a common trip of multipole units, to ensure all poles trip simultaneously.• Easy to connect box terminals (25mm2 cable maximum), to a torque of 2,5Nm.
5. TECHNICAL DATA
5.1. All Q Range circuit breakers, switch disconnectors and earth leakage units have been fully tested in accordance withnational and international standards.
5.2. The Q Range of circuit breakers are current limiting - When an overcurrent causes the breaker to trip an arc is drawnand is quickly extinguished. A magnetic field is introduced in the grids by the current flow and draws the arc into the gridsso that it is lengthened, cooled and split into a series of smaller arcs which are more easily extinguished.

6.5. Reverse Connection - MCB ’s and switchdisconnectors have been tested for, and comply with therequirements to be reverse connected.
6.6. Frequency - MCB’s are suitable for 50/60Hzsystems.
6.7. Switch disconnectors - All Q Range small frameswitch disconnectors are non-automatic circuit breakers, are fully rated and carry the associated circuit breakerfault current for 10ms. Protection must be provided by adevice upstream.

HANDLE LOCK
FEATURES• Moulded in self extinguishing yellow thermoplastic.• Can accommodate up to three padlocks with a 3mm
shank diameter.• Can be used on single and multipole units.• Can be fitted to switches as well as MCB’s.• Locking mechanism does not impede the internal
tripping action of the breaker of RCD.
ApplicationThe handle lock can be used to lock the Q Range circuit breakers and earth leakage units (RCD’s) in either the “ON” or“OFF” position.
Installation
1. Open the locking lever by hinging it outwards.2. Push the lever towards the main body so that thewires protrude.
To lock the breaker in the “OFF” position3. Squeeze the locking wires between the thumb andforefinger and clip wires into holes of handle guard.4. Move the main body towards the breaker until it fitssnugly in the recess above the handle. (Handle is in“OFF” position).5. Hinge the locking lever back into place.6. Insert up to three padlocks with a 3mm shankdiameter.
To lock the breaker in the “ON” position3. Rotate handle lock 180°.4. Squeeze the locking wires between the thumb andforefinger and clip wires into holes of handle guard.5. Move the main body towards the breaker until it fitssnugly in the recess below the handle. (Handle is in“ON” position).6. Hinge the locking lever back into place.7.
