Workshop on Contract ResearchDecember 20, 2005

What is Contract Research

It is the use of existing knowledge in experimental development to produce new or substantially improved materials, devices, products and processes

Contract research is a binding agreement between two or more parties for performing original investigation to gain knowledge and understanding

Benefits of Contract Research

The community better acknowledges the value, importance, and benefits of higher education and research

The university develops more competent, contemporary, and befitting academic programs

The academic research meets the prerequisites to client-driven contract research

Develop new technologies or improve existing ones

The university and the faculty members enjoy mutually inclusive financial benefits

The Need for R&D Base

University technology transfer does not happen without a strong research base

Scientists provide "information" on new research findings which flow into the labs of private sector and into commercialization

Many universities established research centers to benefit from research findings and licensees

Contract Research at KFUPM
